VIDEO OF THE DAY: DOWN – “I SCREAM”

Down, the supergroup featuring Phil Anselmo (ex-Pantera, Superjoint Ritual), Pepper Keenen (Corrosion of Conformity guitarist/vocalist), drummer Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod, Superjoint Ritual), bassist Rex Brown (ex-Pantera), and guitarist Kirk Windstein (Crowbar), performed a new song at their March 9th show at Seattle’s El Corazon. A video of the new song, “I Scream,” was captured by an audience member and posted on YouTube.com:

Chalk it up to too many years of drugs, too many years of booze, too many years of screaming for a living, old age, the live setting, the audio quality being shitty, or all of the above… but Phil Anselmo doesn’t sound great here. The same was true when Axl and I saw Down do a surprise performance at last summer’s Download Festival at Donington Park, UK. Nevertheless, I’m still pretty excited to hear what the new album, the band’s third, will sound like. For what it’s worth, the band sounds great in this clip, even despite the shitty audio. Enjoy.

When I saw Down several years ago at Harpos (can you imagine the smell of that place filled to the gills with sweaty rednecks?) and Phil sounded good. I wonder if the last few years have taken their toll.
