WHAT IF DEVIN TOWNSEND AND NAPALM DEATH HAD A BABY?
See You Next Tuesday may sound like the name of the shittiest metalcore band ever to walk the mall, but musically, they offer atonal grindcore goodness with just a sprinkle of technical death metal to spice up the proceedings. One thing these dudes never are is boring, and since they apparently started as a joke band, all of their incredibly brief (14 songs run less than 19 minutes) songs have fantastic titles, including “Here, Take This Pill,” “Honey, I’ve Never Had Sex That Wasn’t Awkward,” “Just Out of Curiosity, Are Your Parents Siblings?” and my personal favorite, “Before I Die, I’m Gonna Fuck Me a Fish.” But if SYNT’s song titles were better than their music, they’d just be Anal Cunt; instead, the tech-death element ensures the disc never grows wearisome. These dudes can clearly play their instruments, and on at least one song, the Converge-esque “Paraphilia,” they show a sense of genuine melody. Parasite sounds the way strangulation must feel; it may not be for the weak of heart, but for anyone really willing to dive in, this album has some pretty incredible rewards.
