STEAL THIS TRACK: GUNS N’ ROSES CHINESE DEMOCRACY LEAK, DAY 2 – “THE BLUES”

Sunday, May 6th, 2007 at 12:55pm by Axl Rosenberg

richard_fortus_02.jpgThis “November Rain”-esque ballad is, again, a song that Axl’s reconfigured Guns have been playing live since ‘01, and has been a fan favorite just as long. This is the first time we’re hearing a studio-quality version, though, and just let me say, it’s the only one of the leaks I’ve heard so far that I think is ready for release without any further touch-ups. That’s the always dependable Dizzy Reed tickling the ivories; meanwhile, the contrasting guitar solos between Robin Finck (who, a friend commented, “plays like Axl sings”) and the heretofore unsung Richard Fortus (pictured right) illustrate that Axl is fully utilizing his three unique axe slingers (it’s not hard to imagine a video for this song with at least one of these dudes standing atop a cliff or rising out of the water or whatever), while the orchestration should take you right back to 1992, when a certain video trilogy was in constant rotation on MTV.

Great job guys!!!!!…..Thanks for letting us hear this…..whether it arrives in 07′ or 2026…..it’s good to have a peace of mind knowing uncle axl has come correct…….

  2. gnosys says:

A bit more like “Estranged” than November Rain. Outdated, I might still buy the CD.

  3. Better than I expected, but not amazing. Axl doesn’t have that “bite” anymore. He’s pushing so hard for those notes. sad but inevitable.

  4. James says:

Whoa, that crying voice he does is “teh suck”. Good to hear he can still kinda belt it out though, in parts.

  5. joan says:

great song. the intro reminds me of another band from way back… the who?!

  6. CrackerJack says:

Are you all crazy? The vocals on this song are horrible. As my friend puts it, “its like he’s thinking he’s painting the Sistine Chapel or something.” It may be time to move on. The $13 million dollars spent to scientifically recultivate one of the greatest bands of our youth is NOT working. Let’s all just live in sadness for the rest of our lives knowing that we’d all like the unattainable. That is, all we really want is to re-live the Appetite era (even though most of us were really just pissed-off, depressed, confused, and new to the whole hair-on-our-privates thing anyway). Now that’s THE BLUES. Re-kindle your youth with a bottle of whiskey, a joint, and an 18 year-old whore. At least we can afford those things now …

  7. DUff says:

Wow – I liked it better when it was called “What’s Going on?” by 4 Non Blondes.

  8. Ha! says:

F**k it actually does sound a bit like the 4 Non Blondes song!!! Doesn’t the ladt from 4 Non Blondes have a great career as a songwirter these days? I’m sure she penned ‘Beautiful’ for Christina Aguilera……….. maybe Axl got some help – or didn’t wanna pay for help and just stole one of her old songs and reworked it.

  9. stinger says:

I never thought I’d say this, but now i can’t wait for Velvet Revolver’s new album. It can’t be any worse than this. Axl sounds horrible, especially during the verses. Scott Weiland is waaaay better…., these days that is.

  10. Carlos says:

Sounds like a sub-par Elton John-Bernie Taupin song.

  11. I like Madagascar the best but this works for me too. I guess that I am one of those people that likes different types of music. I am ok with it not sounding like it did 20 years ago. We all age, some better than others. I just hope that another album follows before our generation retires.

  12. Canuck_Dude says:

“All the Love in the world couldn’t save you”… what an embarrassing train wreck of an opener. All the time in the world won’t save this album.

  13. MORRIS says:

Hmmmm sounds to me like some of you guys below who liked GNR ages a go has becommed older!! :) This track is actually not fully finished but AXL still sounds like the great Mr. ROSE to me, like him or not. I love that he never sounded like someone else. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin ECT may sound outdated to some but I would still buy their albums if they released any. Great that AXL actually is keeping the same approach to what was. To all who wants the any of this future music please buy a Madonna or an Eminem album!! No better idea you can have mine. Thumbs up AXL you might be crazy and all but you still got the Rock N Roll.

  14. Steve Adler says:

Hey man! I wrote this way back when we all wrote the first album! Thanks for ripping me off! If I knew you’d rip me off I’d have never offered to re unite with you and the guys! I’m going back to Roadcrew!

  15. Ali says:

There are some real morons who post here. If you think these demos are representative of the final vocal tracks, you are a moron. This is just a demo, what is to be judged here is the basic melody, accompaning instrumentation and arrangement. They are all there.

  16. patrick says:

how do I listen to these songs ?

  17. ds says:

how in the name of god does it sound like that 4 non blondes song…you need to lay off the crack bro

  18. leo says:

I think is the best song of all those new songs, well enjoy people :( , and I hope that slash, duff, izzy and steven will join the band someday ,cos`is not the same without them this new guns n roses sucks!!, but well is the only thing we have.

    bye friends

The old Guns N Roses is the best band in the world………!!!!!
