STEAL THIS TRACK: GUNS N’ ROSES CHINESE DEMOCRACY LEAK, DAY 5 – “MADAGASCAR”

Per Rolling Stone’s request, here is the fifth leaked Chinese Democracy demo, “Madagascar”- which actually leaked back in March (there’s a sixth leak, “Better,” long rumored to be the album’s first single- but seriously, we’re not posting that one as it’s been available all over the web for months already).
Ever since first hearing this song live at Rock in Rio in 2001, this has been my favorite of the new GN’R songs, and this high quality studio demo does little to dampen my enthusiasm. The interplay between guitarists Robin Finck, Richard Fortus and Buckethead is fantastic (even if the MLK samples over the solo are a little self-important), and the melody is positively infectious- hell, MTV’s Kurt Loder once compared it to a latter day Beatles song. If “The Blues” is the new “November Rain,” this may very well be the new “Estranged”- dense, stirring, epic. And so, until the strange Portuguese cabal decides to leak more songs out into the world, we offer these words of advice to Mr. W. Axl Rose: these songs are good, dude. Damn good. Now PUT OUT THE DAMN ALBUM ALREADY!
