METAL NEWS UPDATE: DREAM THEATER, SOILWORK, BLOODSIMPLE

PetrucciOn the metal news ticker today:

  • Berklee Today has conducted an interview with Dream Theater members and former Berklee students John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy and John Myung. The interview focuses on the band’s songwriting process, though the words “masturbation” and “jizz” are conspicuously absent.
  • MetalKult has exclusive rehearsal footage of New York’s Bloodsimple playing the new song “Dark Helmet” from their forthcoming CD Red Harvest, which was produced by Machine (Lamb of God, White Zombie) and is due later this summer. The band seemingly forgot to turn the “Good” knob up on this one, though I still have hope that Machine can work his magic.
  • Soilwork have finished mixing their new album. The album is due later this year on Nuclear Blast, and the vocals were produced by Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God, Darkest Hour) who also handled all production on Soilwork’s Natural Born Chaos. Guitarist Ola Frenning says, “All I can say, it sounds excellent… great sound, great playing and a good mix of songs.” Say that out loud in your best Swedish accent and I think we can all agree this album is going to rock.
