I'm sure they were aware that 'A7X' have moved from 'metalcore shits' to 'sleaze rock revivalist shits'. re: "...into something a little less trendy" If you mean relative to metalcore, I'm not sure I follow. Metalcore was no longer trendy at the time CoE was released (abandoned by many bands at the same time), but Avenged saw a niche for a sleaze-rock-oriented counterpart to other 80s-style revivalist movements (thrash, new wave etc). Since then, they have become the "GnR" to Trivium's "Metallica." I like both GnR and Metallica, as do all good hearted people, and I am very open to revivalism (Buckcherry and Shadow's fall, for example, more or less get it right IMO). But Avenged (and Trivium, with whom they will no doubt replicate the infamous Guns/Met arena tour someday) just don't cut it as far as I'm concerned. So, agreed that they are not "metalcore" shits, but they remain shit(s) nonetheless.
