AS I LAY DYING: MUCH TOO POPULAR

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007 at 11:29am by

As I Lay Dying’s okay-at-best An Ocean Between Us apparently sold 40,000 copies in its first week of release.

In case you need some perspective, that’s two thirds of the total sales to date of Chimaira’s Resurrection, and nearly three times as much as Machine Head’s The Blackening sold in its first week.

I hope you all get bent.

Awwww… Poor Axl has sand in his vag.

I thought it was a great album, Unfortunately, like all AILD albums it has a few complete duds though.

They deserve to outsell Chimaira, Machine head is arguable.

I am proud to be one of those 40,000! :)

fuck man, it earned my 10 dollars over all the shit out there. Listening to this album makes me feel like my body’s getting ripped to shreds…and i love it

As I Lay Dying are OK, but basically every one of their song consists of me saying to myself “Okay, things are pretty good, going good, this is actually heavy and badass sounding… and THERE is the pussy singing and contrived breakdowns that I knew were coming.” (click)

Sad, yes, but at the same time, “The Blackening” is massively overrated. A good album, yes. But it’s still nothing compared to “Burn My Eyes”. Long songs do not the next “…And Justice for All” make, and the songwriting on “The Blackening” just isn’t that memorable.

I really like AILD’s new one. There are only a handful of Metalcore bands that are worth mentioning, and AILD is one of those bands. The rest hail from the great state of MA. I think they really expanded on their sound with this album. Like most great albums, it takes a few spins before it sinks in.

To be honest, I haven’t bought Machine Head’s album because I’m waiting for the uber special edition with a Dio cover on it. You know its coming.

As far as Chimaira goes, I have no idea why they haven’t sold as well. Resurrection is one of the best albums of the year.

I TOTALLY AGREE about As I Lay Crying overselling, when judging them on their own merit *just about manages to keep in laugh*.

I can understand why it would sell more than Chimaira’s latest, because Chimaira have gone downhill as of late. What, exactly, are they resurrecting? Why have they made an “angrier” album just after splitting with Roadrunner? It’s the best choice they’ll ever make, but deciding to leave that shitehole of a joke of a label isn’t an exclusive club. And the music sucks. As for “An Ocean Between Us” selling more than triple then “The Blackening”…well that’s not right.
