METALOCALYPSE DVD FUCKS UP THE “DETHTHEME” LYRICS

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007 at 11:55am by

The first season of Metalocalypse comes out on DVD today, and while I fume over the fact that there’s no audio commentary from the show’s creators (some kinda-sorta-funny faux Dethklok interviews are the discs’ sole special feature), chew on this: when watching the cartoon’s opening with the subtitles on (don’t ask me why I was watching with the subtitles on, just go with it), I couldn’t help but notice that the relatively simple lyrics to the “Deththeme” – “Ticking for the Dethklok/Ticking for the Dethklok/I’m ticking for the Dethklok” – have been incorrectly identified as “I’ll teach you how to rock.”

A serious fuck up? Laziness on the part of whomever was supposed to approve these things? A practical joke by some intern who had to type in all the subtitles? We’ll try and get to the bottom of this controversy with some of our ace investigative reporting. Stay tuned for more.

That’s weird, cause in the braille version that lyric is correct. Go figure.

  • Kye

    They say both

The “ticking for the Dethklok” part is at the very beginning and then once that part ends, it says “I’ll teach you who rock, Dethklok, Dethklok, Dethklok, Dethklok”

there are some misprints in the lyrics of the regular cd as well. On murmaider, one of the lines reads “blood will could and drift away”. I’m pretty sure they mean “blood will cloud and drift away”.

I watch tv with closed captioning on… don’t ask why, but the captioning varies from episode to episode. Some start with “Ticking for the Dethklok…” some read “Do anything for Dethklok…” And Kye is right, the “I’ll teach you who rock” part is right before the “DETHKLOK! DETHKLOK!” part which segues into the member introductions.

I always thought it was “Do anything for Dethklok…” at the beginning, but who knows.

If you check brendon small’s website for the metalocalypse demo, you can hear him clearly say, “Doodily ding dong tick tock, Doodily ding dong tick tock, Doodily ding dong tick tock,” not “Do anything for dethklok”. As far as the “I’ll teach you who rock”, I’ve never thought any of the lyrics on the web have been right. It sound to me like he’s saying
    “I’m
tiki (or ticking, or even teaching)
    to (or who)
    rock”

but definitely not “teach you”. I think Mr. Small is trying to mess with our heads…
