GODSMACK TO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF SUCKING

GodsmackDo we really need this? The Pulse of Radio reports [via Blabbermouth] that Godsmack will release a greatest hits collection called Good Times, Bad Times – 10 Years of Godsmack on November 20. Someone please tell an inquiring mind when there were actually good times involving Godsmack — I literally spent my 5 years in the Midwest changing the station whenever a Godsmack song would come on, only to find the other rock station also playing Godsmack (or worse, Nickelback). It was something like radio purgatory. Anyhoo, the greatest hits collection will include a newly recorded slaughtering version of the title track, originally done by Led Zeppelin.

The report also says that the band will follow their fellow suck-buddies in Nickelback by taking an “extended, indefinite break following the release of the hits compilation.” Thank the fucking lord. But singer Sully Erna couldn’t depart without a message for all the fans: “We’re not going away, we are just gonna take a break and enjoy our 10th year anniversary, and kind of recharge our batteries. And then Godsmack will be back, and we will come back bigger and badder than ever.” Make sure you’re holed away in your bomb shelters and you’ve got your very best ear plugs when this happens.

The first Godsmack album remains one of the best albums of the 90s.

    FACT.

    • anwilkes

no..Dirt by Alice in Chains is one of the best albums of the 90′s..FACT

  • ERiK

Ha, atleast radio stations in Detroit play “rock/hard rock/metal” music bro. You gotta admit it.

back in 1998…when i was 12 and i was about 90% sure that alice in chains was never going to make music again…godsmack was the next best thing along with credd…cool for one song…and then when the second single came out and sounded exactly the same as the first single, I realized that I had made a huge mistake with both bands.

they make me soooo ashamed to be a Masshole. And if you ever thought godsuck were good, you are wrong. FACT.

  • Wayne

hahaha…man, Mike D. has seriously got his Godsmack missionary work cut out for him at Metal Sucks, eh?

  • jeremy

theres not a goddamn thing wrong with godsmack fuck u haters

    • anwilkes

yea nothing wrong, except theyre a complete ripoff of Alice in Chains..

  • Troy

    “Jeremy’s smokin craaaaack today…”

    Love Godsmack. Different strokes…

  • TTquick

Cant get past the AIC cover band rip off thing turning into a full fledged recorded version of AIC. Their goddamn name is an AIC song. One real version is enough. Stating the obvious is boring.

    • anwilkes

      so true

  • Mike D

I’d love for someone with a brain to point out what Godsmack songs sound even remotely similar to an AIC song.

Godsmack is steeped in Metallica, Aerosmith, and AC/DC… They don’t sound anything like AIC, and the first album is 10x harder than anything AIC ever did. Two completely different styles.

MIKE D!!! You just said what I’ve been saying for 10 fucking years. It’s okay to dislike or even despise their music, but not for sounding like AIC. Naming (sort of) your band after an Alice song (sort of or not really) is not the same as sounding like them. AIC had Layne with awesome backing vocals from Cantrell. GS has little backing vocals and it’s always Sully backing himself. And his voice is a fucking baritone, while Layne’s was a tenor. Heavier guitars, tons of wah. All downtuned to D or C. Nothing like AIC.

  • Troy

This whole thread is absurd…it’s like discussing at great length the smell and texture of the shit I took this morning….

  • Adam C

Actually they are a huge AIC ripoff. If “faceless” isn’t a ripoff name of “facelift”, if “the other side” isn’t a copycat album of “jar of flies”, if the harmonica in “Shinedown” aren’t a ripoff of the harmonica in “Don’t Follow” by AIC, and you don’t think that their guitarist is the biggest wanna-be copycat Jerry Cantrell follower then CONGRATULATIONS because you are either the most oblivious, arbitrary, or just a believer in divine coincidence.

  • Adam C

I’m not saying they suck, because they don’t. They are excellent musicians and they have a lot of good tunes but in all fairness; If Alice In Chains never existed, this band would not be where they are. It’s more ripoff than influence

  • Cameron! GODSMACK FAN FOR LIFE!

I admit that having Godsmack singing Good Times / Bad Times wasn’t great. But to say they suck, they’re ripoffs of Alice In Chains, your very well wrong!! I’f you can say that about this band. Then you can say it about almost every band. If you listen to their first album, then listen to their 2c Awake. There is a difference.

It’s don’t matter if a band does some of the things that another band has done, if that is the case, then practically every band is ripping off each other because there’s something that one band has done that can relate to another band. And besides do you honestly think that Godsmack is hurting AIC music any. I think not!!!

  • Shawn

Fuck u all godsmack kicks ass and has been called the modern day ac dc by huge magazines like the rolling stone. and good god, godsmack isnt AIC, their GODSMACK! they have their own sound ya bunch of dumasses. If they suck so bad why have they won and been nominated for grammys????? And also toped the charts with thier songs??? Did any of you know that they toured with Metallica for 2 years, and that Metallica hand picked them. Godsmacks lead singer also performed with them, making another sweet song. So if your dissing Godsmack you might as diss Metallica, AC DC, Kiss, and any other groundbreaking rock group.

    • OfCourse

yes, rolling stone is so not the most evil and corporate piece of shit in the modern days… anybody who has a huge amounts of money can pay and order anything on the front page of that magazine… and do you believe that they are modern day ac dc? people say, doesn’t matter what people say… people glorificate all kinds of shitty bimbos and nolifers… and grammy is not oscar…oscar is monitored and analyzed… 2000′s grammy is not the grammy from the past century, be reasonable… if statistics mean so much to you why don’t you listen to just as much as every fart on mtv… Diss Metallica, diss Godsmack… what are you talking about? Why are you mentoning these two bands at the same time in the same sentence? If James were any younger, he would punch Sully in the nose… he is post-alcoholic, jesus, he doesn’t keep up with the bands today, he doesn’t know who is good or bad.

  • Shawn

o so now no ones got anything to say hmm????????

  • Death Strike

Fuck the haters. Godsmack rocks! \m/

  • Inuprince

Oh my god … have you ever heard the phrase – “Taste is not a matter of debate”
Godsmack is my favourite band in the whole f***ing world – and I am happy as hell knowing that they are coming out with a new album this year – one of my big dream is going to a Godsmack concert one day – just because you don’t like their music – doesn’t mean they suck – if you don’t like them just turn of the radio if you really can’t find anything else – besides if every radio station is playing their songs they must be popular and loved by a lot of people don’t you think? I don’t know what is your favourte band – perhaps that’s one band I don’t like but I don’t post a stupid hatred thread about it – if I don’t like something I don’t listen to it – it’s that easy … think about it for a while…
