Too bloody right. Them record labels will make less money, so the message that commercial rubbish isn't the answer will sink in, and they'll start looking for real talent.

Anyway, they could do with making lesser money. These labels make more money in a minute that I ever will in me life. I'm not super rich, but me life's fine as it is. Meaning? I'm not gonna sue anyone. Those litigious douchey labels should just live a little.

Yeah, record sale among major labels are down. Surprise surprise, no one wants to buy your crap anymore. They churned out garbage and forced it down people's throats. But with the internet, hipster kids will find some indie garage band and go and see them play. And for most rock bands, it is the live shows that pay the bills; the records never recoup anyways. So, from a certain rock point of view, downloading only hurts executives and lawyers. To me this is the band playing on the Titanic.

I'm a non-revenue producing music artist. I play mostly for free or drinks. So downloading doesn't hurt me. Now, if I were an artist whose music was stolen........

I hate illegal downloading. I'm in the minority people who feel that if the downloading problem was truly attacked, the music business would be profitable again. Having said that, these ridiculous lawsuits involving hundreds of thousands of dollars do nothing but anger music fans and make labels look evil. I think that the government should step in and try and enforce a speeding ticket style punishment system. Get caught and pay a $50 fine or something reasonable. I really think a simple policy that was attempted to be enforced would have positive results. But again, I am one of those non-hip guys who doesn't look at music as free public domain.

Haven't the labels and decision makers involved learned anything from Metallica openly threatening all down loaders and fans alike? Empty threats and harsh words have had zero impact on the publics download habits. And 2 successful lawsuits hardly make a threat when you consider the size of the download community. Fact is labels need to adapt immediately and accept exactly what VN is writing about. They can wallow along and deny the online marketplace some more or realize it's significance and work with it.
