GUILTY PLEASURE PLAYLIST #2: CHRISTIAN METAL EDITION

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 at 3:45pm by

Multiple choice question: what do the following music videos all have in common? Is it:

a) They’re all both totally trendy and completely generic.

b) They’re all for songs that found their way onto my iPod after lots and lots of illegal substances ingested during TiVo’d episodes of Headbanger’s Ball made them seem like frickin’ masterpieces.

c) They’re all by Christian metal bands.

d) All of the above.

If you guessed “d,” you win… nothing. But if you want to see the videos to which I refer, click through the jump. Then feel free to rip into me like Demon Hunter’s drummer rips into a bag of Funyuns.

DEMON HUNTER, “UNDYING”

NORMA JEAN, “MEMPHIS WILL BE LAID TO WASTE”

INHALE EXHALE, “REDEMPTION”

AS I LAY DYING, “CONFINED”

And even though it’s not on my iPod, just for kicks let’s throw in:

STRYPER, “CALLING ON YOU”

Sorry, Underoath fans. Even I won’t sink that low.

I like the bumblebee look that stryper has goin on in this vid

Ahh Stryper. My first “metal” concert ever. Opening acts T.N.T. and Loudness. hahahahahaa

You know, I’ve only heard two Underoath songs (the ones that have gotten play on HBB) and I’ve gotta say, I kinda like them. It’s not great or anything, but I’d take them over As I Lay Dying.

I still gotta say, check out Training For Utopia, Embodyment is pretty OK, 90 Lb Wuss is pretty fantastic (Where The Meager Die Of Self Interest). I was pretty into christian metal at one point.

So I’ve been perusing this site for a while, and for the second time I’ve found myself surprised by some degree of disrespect dished out to a band that I personally find to be pretty respectable.

In this case, I’m kinda surprised to see Norma Jean lumped in with the likes of Demon Hunter and Inhale Exhale…. especially a song off Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child.

Previous case = Every Time I Die labeled “Every Time I Suck”… seriously, wtf, guys.

Anyway… love the blog, keep up the good work, blah blah blah. And stop shitting on bands I like.

You’re a loser. You don’t even like Living Sacrifice or Becoming The Archetype or even Extol? You’re not a metal fan, you’re just some fake that’s found some pathetic niche on the web. If I were you I would get a career with talent. You know, something that would prohibit people letting you sink in the ocean because they need productive people on the boat. You’re honestly Paris Hilton with black clothing and acne skin.
