TRENT REZNOR TO RELEASE LATEST SHITTY RE-MIX ALBUM

Trent Reznor’s not gonna let a little thing like an acrimonious label-split stop him from releasing one of his re-mix albums, damn it. Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D – I’m sure there are Nine Inch Nails nerds who can pontificate on that ridiculous title’s significance, but I could give a fuck – will be released on November 20 through Reznor’s now-former label, Interscope (who apparently also have plans for a NIN greatest hits collection sometime in the future, natch – gotta squeeze Reznor for every last penny!).

NIN fans will know that these re-heatings are a tradition for Reznor, released a year or so after every album. This particular disc will feature “re-imaginings” of Year Zero tracks by spoken-wordster Saul Williams and a bunch of people I’ve never heard of, including someone named “Ladytron,” who, I have to assume, took his or her name from those Transformers movie tie-in vibrators that came out this past summer.

Because it’s NIN, I’d like to not be cynical for a change and not assume that these re-mix albums are just a cash-in. But it’s been my experience that they’re usually pretty boring – lotsa bleeps and bloops and robbing the music of the rage and hooks that usually make it so appealing in the first place. I’m sure those 16 year olds who have carved “NIN” into their chest with their mom’s Lady Bic are pretty stoked, though.

    Trent’s way too fucking serious about his music. I can respect him putting out a remix disc. That’s typical for artists who feel they can cross over. Tell me if anyone but that freaky DJ in South Orange NJ can get excited about his like 18th remix disc.

    I agree, not much that interests me about the remix albums.

    for the second time, i’m proud of the fact that i know something you guys didn’t know! and for the second time, it’s bullshit noone cares about (including me)…

    Ladytron is an english electroclash/”new rave” (whatever that means…) band with whom NIN toured in europe (or germany at least).

    When I was growing up I owned something like 6 or 7 NIN shirts… now I own just one, and it sits in my drawer reminding me of how I should never remix anything, hahaha…. or at least not give up any drugs I get addicted to… one or the other.

    As with other remix releases, I’ll probably skip this, but I think it’s kind of cool that Trent does this sort of thing. It makes sense given the kind of music he makes. It’s even cooler when he hands the shit over on his website and lets fans do it.

    Year Zero was obviously rushed and full of filler. Maybe a few more years of effort would have been worth it…I didn’t know it was out until it was already released.
