RAGE AGAINST THE TOOL???

Maynard James KeenanThe Pulse of Radio reports [via Blabbermouth]: Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan says that he recently worked on a new song with drummer Brad Wilk and bassist Tim Commerford of Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine. Although Wilk and Commerford were rumored to have played on Keenan’s upcoming Puscifer album, the singer told The Pulse of Radio that the collaboration took a somewhat different shape. “They found themselves not working with (singer Chris) Cornell after the last Audioslave record and they wanted to know if I was interested in starting a band. And I said ‘No, I’ve got this other thing going on and two other bands to boot.’ But what I suggested to them was that they should start their own band and have me sing a song, and have some other singers sing a song. I think on some level they agreed, and so that’s what we kind of did. I went in and we wrote a song together and right now they’re currently trying to record that song, and I’ll go sing on it.”

Audioslave was enough. And now this? Do we really need another bad supergroup collaboration? Do we really need ANOTHER project that will delay the making of more Tool music??

Oh goodness. I’ll admit, I don’t want a delay in new Tool any more than you, Vince, but the idea of these guys with Maynard on vocals is…….

Okay, I need to sit down a sec. I’ve gotten myself a case of the vapors here.

If it sounds like the majority of their last two albums – YES.

Tool is taking a Metallica-like nose dive in terms of quality music.
The new stuff is listenable, but doesn’t stand up compared to the earlier albums.

The last two albums? Really??? I’m shocked that more people don’t like “Lateralus”! Plus, “10,000 Days” — while not without filler — has some incredible songs on it.

Also, they’re amazing live. Fucking amazing.

Wayne, I’m with you on that one 100%. You nailed it. Lateralus is my favorite Tool album, and 10,000 Days, though it has some filler, is still damn good. And yes, the live show is 2nd to none. Best live band on the planet — and they barely even move on stage!

Even if you think that Tool’s last couple of albums aren’t as good as their old stuff – which I don’t agree with, but let’s say you’re right – say they’re taking a “Metallica-like nose dive in terms of quality music” is DRASTICALLY overstating the point. Metallica haven’t made anything even remotely DECENT in SIXTEEN YEARS. That’s vastly different from making some albums with some filler or fewer “heavy riffs” or whatever.

they should have different singers cover audioslave songs…milk audioslave even more.

i like the idea of maynard and ex-members of rage… regardless of the fact its a supergroup collaboration, i wouldnt go so far to say it was bad… they all have talent and the world needs more bands with TALENT… what we should be discusing is wtf is getting played on the radio… and htf rock is getting so fuckin pussy!!!

Fuck that. Do we really need another project that will delay new Rage Against The Machine music? I think it’s time for a comeback. The time is right with the election coming up.

first for the record, I love tool.

MayNARD needs to get his ass in gear with tool. an album every four years is bullshit. I could understand if these guys were pumping out albums that there would be “some filler” and a slightly downward direction…

These guys have more time than any other band in the world to write these songs and make they amazing… this isn’t happening. The albums are “good” but they aren’t “tool good” and my only problem is that is the amount of time we wait to receive these mediocre songs.

Now to imagine that with all that wasted time that there is time to work on three side projects (and tour) is beyond me. the words, “shut the fuck up and do your job” come to mind… but hey, who am I but a lowly consumer.
