POUR YOUR MISERY DOWN ON METALLICA

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007 at 11:27am by Vince Neilstein

James Hetfield is only happy when it rains-UH! Or so he said when Metallica did an acoustic cover of the Garbage classic at Saturday Night’s Bridge School Benefit in California.

Don’t worry, we’re as baffled as you are. [Idolator]

    I would say: delete that.

  2. TTquick says:

Metallica continues down that ‘fuck everyone’ path, but that path is way off course.

They fucked that song up in a huge way.

  3. Wayne says:

Looks like SOMEONE ran out of Diamond Head covers.

  4. Sammy says:

Hetfield continues to oversing everything. He even ruins the old songs. (I was fully prepared to think you guys were being too harsh and to defend Metallica, instead of the continued pile-on, but um…ugh.)

    Totally agree with TTQ.

  5. ERiK says:

You have got to be kidding me. What a joke.

  6. Karel (Belgium) says:

Horrible. I really don’t know if i should look forward to or fear the upcoming album. I was hoping on the first good album since … And Justice For All. But right now that seems even likely as finding Utopia tomorrow. The only thing that leaves me with some hope is the Rick Rubin-factor.

I can find myself in all of the above comments.

  7. TTquick says:

Sammy’s right. Ever since ‘Black’, Hetfield hasn’t been the same. His love for actual singing doesn’t suit the band as well as his long lost ferocious growl.

  8. ERiK says:

The guy can’t sing, who are you kidding. I think the vocal lessons were an april fools joke that he took seriously. Some opera teacher is like, I can’t believe this guy is taking this seriously and paying me money! New Metallica is going to be pathetic. They can’t even play a COVER song with solid delivery. You remember their pathetic rendition of Iron Man a few years back? I’ve heard 12 year olds play that better. These guys should have done themselves a favor and all died in that tragic bus crash w/ Cliff.

  9. Shnaz says:

that’s just so embarassing it makes me nauseous.

  10. Dr, Dope says:

ok, thats it. im done wit metallica forever! this is the last straw. metallica is “garbage” fuk u metallica! thank god we still got slayer and megadeth.

  11. Capt. Manbro says:

Yodelin’ Jimmy’s ridiculous crooning is all the more embarrassing when one considers that the man once reigned supreme as the undisputed King Of Metal.

I had followed Metallica since their infancy and let me tell you this-they will NEVER release anything worth listening to (other than for laughs) again, guaranteed. Quite simply, they have forgotten how to be heavy. Look what happened when they tried, the laughable “St. Anger” was the best they could do. Lars thinks he’s an elitist snob, Kirk Hammett doesn’t even mind when the band makes an album without any leads and Hetfield thinks he’s Ronnie Van Zandt or Phil Lynott or something.

Even when they play the old stuff live, it comes across as plodding and workmanlike, as if they’re almost slightly embarrassed by playing the old material. Hetfield croons the lyrics in that stupid hillbilly style of his and drains the ferocity right out of the music. God damn do they suck.

Suposedly (is that spelled right?) blew his vocal chords while recording the black album (the so what! cover, to be specific), so it doesn’t surprise me his change of voval style. I’ve been a fan since I was 14 (I’m 22 now), and the reached his best with this vocal style around the S&M album. That cover was horrible and embarrassing. No body is perfect, after all. I’ll wait to the new album to see if they at list have still some fire on them to do this.

  13. matt says:

I keep hearing that the new album is gonna be progressive and complex and shit which is good but then i remember hettfield’s vocals are gonna be shit again and i lose all confidence

  14. bammer says:

metallica is awesome!!!!! one extreme to the next, and masters of it all!!!!!
keep blowing my mind metallica!!!!!!!!!! i luv it!!

  15. me says:

what were they thinking when they lined up this set of songs. shocking pic of songs. I’m listening to it now and it’s bad. The only songs that sound good are there own.
