ZOLTAN CHANEY (VINCE NEIL’S DRUMMER) IS THE FUCKING MAN

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 at 1:14pm by

Last week we posted some recent live video of Vince Neil up to his old tricks of singing every other word to his songs, and noted how fucking awesome his drummer Zoltan Chaney was (plus, how metal is that name??). You guys loved it — Zoltan’s childhood buddy even stopped by to comment. Well, here’s some more video of Zoltan playing with Vince, this time up close — uhhh, did I just see him hit a crash cymbal with his FOOT????

The guy makes it look ridiculously easy. Somebody please get this dude a gig that fits him.

  • Tony

He’s a good showmen, but I’d still take Shannon Larkin over this guy in a heartbeat – he at least adds performance AND insane skills.

  • Troy

Whatever dude, I would pay to see this guy play…even if it meant suffering through the root canal that is Vince Neil singing.

  • TLee’sSmall

Dude get this guy the Crue gig, he kicks TLee’s ass anyday of the week.

Z is a machine on drums! He is also a pretty good basketball player! He takes a good cold milkshake over a drink and has been playing like this for over 20 years. Once we were trying to record a gig and all you could hear was his drums, we asked him to play lighter and he told us to get a louder PA if we wanted to be louder than him. A naturally agressive player even back then! Go Z!

I just witnessed the nuclear explosion that is Zoltan at the first annual Vince Neil tattoo shop anniversary.I was so mezmerized by his constant assault, that I barely noticed Vince’s presence. This guy is phenomenal, original, and charismatic. Not to mention a real cool guy to hang out with.I would gladly pay to see him perform again, and hope that I get that chance. My oppinion is he kicks Tommy’s ass all day long.I have never seen anything like it before.

Dudes I been playing drums for over 20 years and seen alot of fancy drummers, but this guy is great. My mouth was hanging to the floor watching him. He did some cool tricks that I did not even think you could do. The best thing I seen him do was playing and swinging his hi hat foot back in forth over the toms while playing and did not miss a beat. He was also playing catch with his tech. All I could say is if you could see this guy check him out.

Saw Zoltan play with Vince Neil last night at the Sunset Station Casino, outside of Vegas. All I can say is, HE STOLE THE ENTIRE FRIGGIN’ SHOW! ZOLTAN IS THE MAN!

Saw him last nite in Penticton. Went to see Vince. Didnt even care about Vince, Zoltan WAS the show. Met him after and gave him kudos and he hugged me! Genuine good guy.THIS is what REAL rock stars are. Vince was a dick, as usual. Totally ignored the few fans waiting out back. Couldnt even be bothered to say “thanks for coming out, guys” or anything. Fuck him. Hopefully Zoltan hooks up with his level of class. He and Dana were the kindest dudes ever. He even choked his hats with his foot!

  • Cindy

I grew up with Zoltan in Ironton, Ohio. He was one grade ahead of me. He has always had a passion for playing the drums. I am so happy to see him making it big!

    • mark

Yea he lived down the street from us and my brother and I played basketball together. I could hear him play a half of block down where i lived. Good to see him do well.

Zoltan is easily the best rock drummer I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe I finally found this cat. The last time I saw him, he was playing with Lois Lane in Panama City beach in the year 1980 I believe. I’ve been trying to emulate his drumming style ever since then, with very little sucess. When I saw him play, I was instantly amazed at his showmanship, charisma and ability. I would much rather see Zoltan play, rather than virgil, thomas lang or neil peart. I’m sorry, but showmanship at zoltan’s level is harder to come by.

Saw Zoltan for first and last time at Feelgoods opening last year in West Palm Beach,FL.That band sounded better than Crue ever did. They did a Zep/Sabbath medley near the end that was sweet.Zoltan”The Man” Chaney was definitely unique, outrageous, etc. Finally found some clips of him on his site and youtube. He should have the Crue gig if Tommy Lee doesn’t want to do it anymore.I play drums myself and I’m not even trying that stuff that Z-Man does, let him do it ,it’s his signature thing.Besides I get stuck playing with dudes who always need to turn it up just to play louder than my hi-hats.If I threw a stick up at one of my gigs it would hit the ceiling almost immediately.Rock On,Z-Man.

Does anyone know if Zoltan used to play with a band that toured high schools and did motivational speeches about drugs and such….cause if so I remember this guy from like 99. Great drummer, but his flair for twirling the sticks and keeping beat is just amazing.

I saw Vince Neil perform in NYC last night and while I loved most of the tunes being played, the whole set was rather a let down based on how short it was. Through it all, Zoltan had me mesmerized. One of the best visual players I have ever seem and honestly a straight-forward and solid technician in terms of his ability on the kit. He did make a lot of the antics looks easy and that was even more impressive.

GAY. Neil Peart never had to “show off” or do any of those stupid “80s poser” flashy stick tricks to prove how good he was on the kit.
This guy is an attention starved AVERAGE drummer. Don’t agree?? Close your eyes and listen. Uh, yeah. Exactly. THAT’S why he ain’t gettin’ the BIG gigs.
