DAVE MUSTAINE PULLS A GENE SIMMONS AND ANNOUNCES PROPRIETARY COFFEE BLEND

Dave MustaineThank the fucking lord, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has come. Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine has gone and pulled a Gene Simmons, slapping his band name’s brand on any product that will sell licensing his band’s name to a fine product, this time his very own coffee blend. Seriously, I can’t wait to get my hands on MegaDave’s own blend of coffee; in fact, I can’t even imagine how vastly improved my morning bloggery would be if I had a cup of Dave right now instead of regular old Joe.

Sadly, I may have to wait — though the super-special blend will be available next week at Megadeth.com, only fan-club members will be able to partake. I know at least one member whose name rhymes with Chloe D., but the rest of you kids will just have to put this special item on your Christmas list and hope Mommy and Daddy have some good connections. Or at least some regular old coffee and a Megadeth sticker. [Blabbermouth]

I am so very far past condemning famous folks for whoring themselves out in the name of commercial endorsements. I mean, c’mon, do I own shot glasses with my favorite baseball and football teams’ names emblazoned upon them? Yep! Do I use a mouse pad in the (licensed) shape of a Les Paul? That’s me. Does my Lib Tech snowboard have stickers on it from various companies selling various items? But of course. People should make a buck when and where they can. If that means selling your songs to Cadillac, so be it. Isn’t the name of the game to sell your products? If a little of your soul gets in the mix, who the fuck am I to pass judgment?

Megadeth coffee? That’s so absolutely ludicrous that I must buy some. I did buy that Iron Maiden incense, after all…

To bad Dave has gone to ripping of Kiss (crazy merchandising) instead of what worked best – ripping off Mercyful Fate. I was listening to The Oath the other day…sigh
