MAZEL TOV TO KILLSWITCH ENGAGE

Blabbermouth reports that more than three years after its original release, Killswitch Engage’s modern masterpiece The End of Heartache has finally been certified gold by the RIAA.

Depending on whom you ask, KsE are either one of the bands most responsible for saving metal in the 21st century or ruining metal in the 21st century. We happen to fall into the former category, so to celebrate the band’s success, here’s a live performance of the album’s title track from the Set This World Ablaze DVD.

I’d say they neither saved nor ruined metal. Just part of the movement.

  • TJ

I try really hard to like the newer KSE stuff.

But I really haven’t liked any of their material since Alive or Just Breathing, which so happens to be the last Jesse record.

Not a fan of the Howie era.

Mazel Tov, they still SUCK. Bring me back the head of Jesse Leach, or get lost.

  • Sammy

At this point, isn’t asking for Jesse to come back kind of like asking for Maiden to bring back Paul DiAnno?

  • Karel (Belgium)

I completely agree with TJ, couldn’t have said it better myself.

How is the Leach Era so awesome? They had two good songs (Serenade and Life to Lifeless) and everyone thinks that he made Killswitch Engage. No, Howard is an excellent vocalist. Listen to Blood Has Been Shed. Justin Foley and Howard Jones are in that band. Is that enough screaming for you? Just because bands take new approaches doesn’t mean they suck. Yeah, welcome back Leach with his torn up throat who can’t scream for one night without furthering his vocal damage. Leach was a good vocalist, but I think Howard is too.

Agree with the majority of people, Jesse is a better singer. It’s not that Howard is bad, he just sounds more generic to me. Jesse’s voice, and particularly his screams, sounded more unique, and different to the generic metalcore growl.

  • Karel (Belgium)

Sometimes when a band takes a new approach they really do start to suck. Remember Poison The Well? If KSE releases a new album, I’m still going to buy it. Just not with the same expectations I had after Alive Or Just Breathing.

I’m not knocking Howie as being a bad singer at all.

I’m simply saying that I liked the band more when Leach was singing for them.

I actually love BHBS and think they are one of the most underrated metal bands of the past few years.

But I also think that somewhere in Jesse’s departure from the band, the songwriting of KSE also took a pretty big hit.
The songs were a lot better on AOJB, and also on the s/t they put out on Ferret.

Now all of their songs follow the whole “heavy part to heavy bridge to singalong chorus to heavy breakdown back to singalong chorus” metal by numbers.

personally i always thought tht kse always sounded too much like the metalcore movement
