SATURDAY SONG TO GET STONED TO: BIG BUSINESS – “FOCUS POCUS”

When Vince and I saw Big Business play live earlier this year, we both had lukewarm reactions — sure, the bombastic, sludgy sound was cool, but it became repetitive pretty quickly, and the overall quality of the songs couldn’t sustain that. However, this Seattle-transplanted-to-L.A. band often sounds like a muddy Jane’s Addiction/Motorhead hybrid (largely due to the yelp-y rasp of the screaming vocals), and you simply gotta give it up for that kind of combo. These guys have been playing really great shows as of late, opening for the likes of Tool, High On Fire, Isis, and the Melvins, a band which the two members of Big Business have actually become a part of. Huh?

For some reason I get this song randomly stuck in my head from time to time, and to be honest, I didn’t officially realize that it is by B.B. until just the other day.

“Take my advice, don’t come any closer…”

Badass.

These guys kick ass. Saw them open for both Tool and High on Fire, and I loved them both times.

Mr Wingerschmidt you have done it again! Big Business put out one of my top 5 records of ’07… Still not sick of it.

These two dudes bring more sound and energy than most four pieces.
