CINEMETAL: KINGS OF LEON – “CHARMER”

Kings of Leon are certainly not a metal band. Should you ever attend a Kings of Leon concert, your tattoos and metal-spiked leather armband would stick out amongst the perfectly-blowdried wind-swept hairdos like a frat dude at a lesbian bar. But there’s something about this band that, like aforementioned frat dude at beaver lair just has some fucking BALLS! Though the band often leans indie rock, “Charmer” is certainly one of the heavier (if not the heaviest) tracks on Kings of Leon’s most recent release, Because of the Times; lead singer Caleb Followill’s howls would send most indie kids running. If you like your rock boogified and southern-fried with a dash of stonerfied, you may dig the band’s sound. Think a slightly more indie-sounding version of Clutch with some Floydian (though not in this song) influences thrown in. See for yourself in the video for “Charmer,” below.

“Because of the Times” is a great, great record. Good call, VN.

I didn’t like the first albums by KOL. But “Because Of The Times” is very good. I just love that start with “Knocked Up”. And yes, they really sound very southern…
