Yeah, Metallica have lost it. That’s why all their concerts sell out and all their recent alums have hit number one (setting a record for consecutive albums debuting at number one). They don’t need to promote their stuff, people will buy it before they’ve even heard the music. And after alienating young people with the napster courtcase, it’s a good way of getting people back on side. Go and see Metallica live, then slate them; they rocked then and they still rock now.

This site comes to prove that some people can relly be ignorant…

Metal isn’t just being angry and teaching kids how to behave like they don’t have an education.

To like metal you have to know how to feel it, that’s
why we bang our heads sometimes or close our eyes, or put our hands in the air!

its a mix of feelings, i listened to a lot of other types of music before, but nothing can calm me down more that a good rock or metal song!…

And, you know…
no other type of music can make you feel emtional to the point that you start shouting what they’re singing

can hip hop or pop do that? In a concert with people that just came out of the hair stylist, that cannot touch each other because of b.o.??

come on…

any way, you can call me ignorant too if you want, but i don’t go to a web site talking trash about a renouned artist that you probabily like, without knowing WHAT THE HELL I’M FUCKING TALKING ABOUT!!

I also think Metallica don’t need to promote their new songs. Their true and real fans will always want to hear treir music and will always be with them. I absolutely love all their albums, because they try new ways of playing, from the trash metal of kill’n'all to the more “relaxed” metal of garage inc, etc. For me they are and always will be the best band of the world. I’m 17 and I hear them since I was 3 years old, and i’m not even american, and if someday they start to play worse (which i don’t belive that will never happen) i will still love them because that’s what real fans must do.

Metallica doesn’t need to promote shit in my opinion. Everybody already knows who they are. If someone really wanted to listen to their new album or even their older ones they can find the music pretty easily. I was even surprised that ‘One’ was put on guitar hero III (at least someone had their head straight). I only wonder if metallica can see they are the laughing stock of the music scene. O waite, they don’t care. As long as they can pay off their mansions and expensive cars.

In other words, any album besides …And Justice for all and Kill em all isn’t worthy.

I like load and reload, hell saint anger’s not that bad. yes i said it. but they’re nowhere near where they used to be. and never will be. it’s been all down hill since Kill ‘Em All if you ask me. I’m 17 and i heard about metallica through guitar world during that whole 25th (20th?) anniversary of MoP. i got obsessed with them really quick, but i knew who they were long before i started listening to avenged sevenfold and trivium though. also, trivium suck now. just thought i’s sneak that in. metallica’s new album sounds dissapointing. it’s just gonna be a jumbled mess of speed and “heavy”ness. but what band doesn’t promote their newest album as HEAVIER, FASTER, BETTER, MORE MATURE, BACK TO OUR ROOTS, OLD SCHOOL, EXPERIMENTAL…etc. they all have the same advertising tactics.

as for actually being on topic, video games have been a way to reach kids for years. metallica’s just catching on. hey they’re working wit hrick rubin, maybe it won’t be SO bad then. back to the topic…yea Axl i wish i had rock band too…but somehow i dont think it’d live up to guitar hero…even if its tracklisting does kick ass.

I think Wayne made a great point. Metallica is hated by sooo many “metalheads” these days, and most of them have never even listened to Metallica. The same kids who wear Trivium shirts have never heard Metallica, and yet hate them (even though that seems crazy, its true). hardcore and screamo kids, same deal. I admit, that I used to bash on Slipknot something awful until I was actually forced to listen to them and realized they are pretty damn good. If nothing else, putting this single out on the vid will FORCE kids who are playing the game to hear it. If it sucks though, thats not going to make anybody like it.

Metallica being such a big band (and one that has consistently let everyone down with recent product) is precisely why they should do this. They’ve run their name into the ground so bad in the past 15 or so years (give or take) that if they put their single onlne or the radio, most people of a certain age will pass right by it. But if they are a CAPTIVE audience (i.e. playing a game that demands that they come into contact with the song) the band is at least getting their music heard by people who would otherwise walk on by. If it’s a good song, then they just won a new fan who otherwise only knew them from Shit Anger. If not, well, at least they had the right idea.

I’m gonna agree with Wayne here on this one.

The old way of promoting music is on it’s last legs. MTV? Doesn’t play videos. Radio? Not a lot of impact anymore.

Cross-promoting stuff with video games has helped some bands out. I remember the first time Avenged Sevenfold started to get some play was because they were on the soundtrack for Madden 04 or something like that.

A local band up here, Bang Camaro, has been getting a lot more popular in Boston, and a lot of that is due to them being on GH2.

It’s the way of the future, and with the recording industry starting to fall apart, it’s only going to continue.

If Metallica made a good record all they need to do is release it and it will sell. On the other hand, chances of that happening are really slim, so this Rockband move will get press, but it doesn’t guarantee sales. For a band of Metallica’s size, this is a desperate move.

What are they SUPPOSED to do? Put a video on MTV? Ship it out to radio? They’re a big band, and those old-school methods will work to a degree, but mainly with people old enough to remember their glory days. How do you reach 12 year olds? From Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium wearing your shirts, and video games.

I’m sure Metallica thinks this is such a freaking cool idea, but to me, It reeks of desperation. Axl’s right on when he says they are shooting for the 15 year olds Metallica-less virgin ears. And to me, that’s the wrong fucking approach. How about making good music for the FANS?

I love that game so much and I think it’s a really neat way to do advertise and get people excited about new music. That being said, Metallica hasn’t done anything I’ve liked for almost as long as I’ve been alive–please put some Pantera and Exodus on there.

If this is true, I think it’s pretty saavy on Metallica’s part. Remember how they dropped the ball with the whole Napster thing? This would be their effort to put that behind them. Fact is, games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band and even Madden football provide a great opportunity for bands that aren’t getting any play on radio or the video-less MTV to have their work heard by people in key demographic groups.
