Besides an erroneous Wiki entry that has been disputed by the band since day one, what proof do you have to offer about Godsmack performing AIC cover songs at ANY point in their career?

Further, the “non-fans” that hear the similarity must not be fans of AIC either, because they sound nothing alike. Godsmack sounds more like Metallica than they do AIC.

No, you got me wrong. I’m not spitting venom. I’m just a ass with a keyboard and smart ass mouth. My actual opinion is just that. People hear what they hear, like what they like, dislike what they dislike.

What I really hate, however, is people who equate one’s taste (I emphasize, TASTE) in music with intelligence or lack thereof. It’s an unwinnable argument and pointless to boot. I personally think Slayer is a retarded band who write great intros followed mindless noodling solos that show off only speed and terrible scale runs. But I don’t think you’re stupid for liking them or even thinking their solos are brilliant.

As for Godsmack, I don’t care who likes or dislikes them. But despising someone you’ve never met for some esoteric reason is in and of itself “retarded”.

I remember attempting the AIC/Godsmack argument on another post.

Observation 1 – Fans dont like the comparison with AIC and will fight it tooth and nail. Non fans hear the similarity and simply point it out.

My 2 cents – Nobody can deny they did AIC covers prior to getting a record deal. It’s a fact.

Sammy’s spitting venom. I like the passion but it’s severely misdirected. I hear a similarity between the bands. The Godsmack gestapo tells me I’m wrong. You musician types sicken me at times. Your ears are so finely tuned and no one else knows a fucking thing.

Sheila, could you point out the two-part harmony (evident in almost every AIC song) in Godsmack please? Paying homage to a band (by sort of taking a song name and calling your band that) is not really the same thing as copying a band. Whether like or despise or somewhere in the middle either or both of these bands, they really are nothing alike. Unless you drink your own douche water, then maybe they sound the same.

Godsmack sounds nothing like AIC. The tone, structure, EVERYTHING, sounds nothing like AIC.

According to Larkin, this package was pushed by the record label, not the band.
