R.I.P. PAT MASON, 1986 – 2007

Pat Mason, bassist for Arsonists Get All the Girls, has passed away. He had literally just turned 21 years old. A posting on the band’s MySpace page reads as follows:

“We can’t describe the pain and sorrow that we all are feeling right now. Last night/early this morning our bassist, Pat Mason, passed away. Pat was an amazing person and brother to all of us. It was his 21st birthday and we all got to see him at band practice. He then proceeded to go out to the bars. He went to sleep at a friend’s house. We don’t know the full details but when friends tried to wake him up this morning he didn’t wake up. We could never trade him for the world and could never replace him. We will always love him and will always be in our hearts. We are going to continue with the band cause that is what Pat would have wanted. There will be a donation account set up soon for his family and possibly a local benefit show as well. Thanks for everyone for the support that the band has since the beginning. We love you all and Pat loves you all as well.”

This is truly, truly devastating news. We didn’t know Pat personally, but you’ll recall that AGATG did the “Song to Get Stoned To” column for us a few weeks back, and not only did they seem like great guys, but their most recent album, The Game of Life, is pretty fantastic. There are really no words for how much this saddens all of us here at MetalSucks.

    Let me play the insensitive prick card here and say that people who knowingly consume enough alcohol to not wake up (yes, I’m jumping to a logical conclusion here) – something that is incredibly difficult to do – are in the same category as those who knowingly consume too much alcohol and wrap themselves around telephone poles (and hopefully don’t take some innocent soul along with them). It’s something Darwin called Natural Selection, and I have a hard time gearing up for the R.I.P. Sympathy and Tears Wagon. Maybe someone in his social circle will learn something from this.

    I don’t think that Pat Mason knew he was going to die. He went out on his birthday to have fun, not “knowingly consume alcohol to the point of not waking up”. so before you go on and act like an ass on the internet, be considerate in the retrospect that he’s just a 21 year old kid and of his family and friends, asshole. people make mistakes, and it’s the simple fact that he died and should be remembered for what he did in life and not in death.

    You’re right Katie, I bet he didn’t expect to drink enough to die. It’s pretty hard to do. You have to be insanely stupid to do that or have the worst friends in the world to let that happen to you. A whole lot of young people drink too much on their 21st birthday. Most stop before they die.

    I have no sympathy for idiots. I do have sympathy for the people they kill when they drive while being drunk idiots.

    ‘Mike’ you are a fucking moron. Im not into their music either but 21 is no age to die, regardless of whether or not it was from drinking too much. His friends family must be in pieces right now. Its something that could happen to any of us or anyone we care about (premature death i mean)

    Arsonists Get All The Girls is an amazing band with incredible talent, Pat did not deserve this at all, and for all you saying stuff like it doesn’t matter you need to fuck off, he lost his life at only 21 that’s just to young for anyone to pass away =[. your always in my heart Pat, RIP.
