METALLICA AND LED ZEPPELIN TO PLAY BONNAROO 2008?

BonnarooAccording to an anonymous tip sent to industry pundit Bob Lefsetz, Metallica and Led Zeppelin are confirmed for next year’s Bonnaroo festival, the annual 4-day hippie and hipster fest in Manchester, Tennessee. Tool played last year’s event, marking a big departure from the usual array of jam bands and blog-flavor-of-the-moment indie rock bands.

Led Zeppelin I can see; generations of people of all types of music grew up listening to Zeppelin. But won’t Metallica be the odd one out? I’d have to imagine that many attendees chose to go to a different stage while Tool was on last year; Maynard himself called everyone a bunch of “crazy hippies.” Or has Metallica reached that level of mainstream ubiquity where they’ll actually go over well with a bunch of snot-nosed indie rockers singing along to “Enter Sandman”?

They should play, maybe an all acoustic set full of Garbage covers. Maybe a Portishead song too.

Actually Tool brought in quite the crowd. At bonnaroo it doesn’t matter if you like the band playing or not because there is probably one you do like that is either already playing or about to go on. Even during the headliners. Last year the had a beerfest, silent disco, comedians, a cinema, all kinda of other activities to keep you buys. If you don’t like a particular band there is plenty of other stuff to do. To me that was the only downside to the roo, to much to do and not enough time….. and also the fact that its pretty over crowded. Led Zep would make it really over crowded but I think I could get over it.
