CINEMETAL: THREAT SIGNAL, “RATIONAL EYES”

I’ve never been that into Threat Signal – I don’t know why; I guess they just don’t, as the cliché goes, “hit me on a gut level.” But we got an e-mail from a reader last night bitch slapping us for having never talked about the band, ever. So here’s their video for “Rational Eyes,” which was directed by David Brodsky, one of the better music video directors out there these days (he also directed God Forbid’s forthcoming concert DVD, which still doesn’t have a release date!). So, Threat Signal fans, this one’s for you…

I saw these guys at B.B. King’s with Soilwork and Darkest Hour a little over a year ago. The show overall was great, apparently… I don’t remember a large part of it. My buddy actually had to remind me that I had seen Darkest Hour a few months back, that’s how thoroughly blurry that memory was. Thank you Jack Daniel’s and Darkest Hour.

Anyway, I’ve listened to Threat Signal a bit… but they just remind me of later Soilwork a bit too much – I hear a lot of Stabbing the Drama. Even from Soilwork, it isn’t my favorite, although definitely still good; from Threat Signal, I just wasn’t impressed.

I puked in my mouth when the clean vocals came on in that video. Then I tried to shape said puke into a bile snowman (you know, to make it better) but Randy Blythe came over, drunk, and stepped on it.

Speaking of bands that don’t “hit me in the gut”, its appropriate that God Forbid was mentioned in that post. I know alot of people think those guys are badass, and I certainly think they are good musicians, but I just don’t really like em. I think I am really shying away from clean vocals these days unless they really fit the music or the goal of what the band is trying to accomplish.
