ELECTRIC WIZARD SCRATCHES OUR ITCH FOR NEO-SABBATH DOOM

Our pals over at Crustcake have posted a retrospective on ’90s UK doom masters Electric Wizard, recently reformed after breaking up in 2002. Back with a new lineup in which Jus Oborn is the only original member (though he’s added his wife, Liz Buckingham on guitar), the band released a new record last month, Witchcult Today on Candlelight Records.

Yeah Kip! Dopethrone is crucial. Probably their most critically-lauded album.
Though not as overwhelming as Dopethrone, Witchcult Today is still one of my favourite albums of ‘07…
It’s like King Diamond hired lesser musicians and got really stoned. Sludgy Mercyful Fate.
Yeah, I only got into these guys relatively recently but it’s good stuff. Think Sabbath on codeine & beer minus the love vibe.
Love the tone and tar pit vibe but the vocals aren’t ballsy enough for me to really embrace it.
