POLL RESULTS: SCREAMING VOCALS IN METAL “HAVE A TIME AND PLACE”

Thursday, December 20th, 2007 at 4:44pm by

Way to take the middle of the road, you spineless fucks. In last week’s poll we asked what you thought of screaming vocals in metal, and here were the results:

  • “Fuckin’ brutal, the way real metal should be. Clean singing is for pussies.”
    22 votes (7%)
  • “A legit vocal style that has a time and a place, as does clean singing.”
    211 votes (68%)
  • “Annoying and overdone — would these fucking fake-angry whiners shut up already?”
    77 votes (25%)

So, judging by your votes, you all like generic metalcore songs, right?

    Fucking pussies.

  • Fink

I voted middle of the road. It’s true – I am a massive vagina.

That said, I have been known to enjoy the occasional generic metalcore band. However, saying you can appreciate both singing and screaming vocals doesn’t mean that you appreciate SHITTY vocals, whether they be singing OR screaming. I think the majority of generic metalcore bands would fall into that category.

Seriously Vince… why you gotta bust balls?

  • Eddie

Well Vince, last time I checked, In Flames were still doing both vocal styles. Try getting the whole generic metalcore thing past their hardcore fans.

Pussies? Cuz we like both? No, just a little more open-minded, that’s all. Yeah, what Fink said.

I don’t think all of us like Avenged Sevenfold.

Dumbest thing ever said on this website. Did you even pay attention to your own poll?

  • Anthony

You just said that to get me riled up and make me comment, but I won’t!

    Fuck…

haha, I would love to have seen another category on here for screaming vocalists who can tastefully implement clean vocals… That would probably have been the winner.

  • Amanda

I voted in the middle as well, just because I like BOTH styles that fit well in a song. Doesn’t mean we like “generic metalcore”.

You guys, I kid, I kid!

    @ Anthony: exactly.

Everyone! I’m holding a class next week on the finer points of sarcasm. I think a few of you should attend.

  • http://www.myspace.com/freaksystemband Sammy

    i get jokes.

  • Seth

Your finer points of sarcasm class would fail to address the number one most important component of modern day discourse: ONLINE sarcasm. Its one thing to know it through intonation, its another to know it from just the words (much more difficult).

that being said, Vince laid it on pretty thick there, so anyone who took that statement as a shot at them for voting the middle prolly needs to go back to Sarcasm 101 before moving on to the class I suggest.

  • Emily

I prefer the gothic metal which employs both, not necessarily metalcore.

  • dave

as far as i know, tool is not metalcore

  • http://myspace.com/arsonyva matt

a lot of great bands can do both, and alot of great bands do one or the other, how good it is depends more on the music and the style of the screaming/clean

  • Matty B

    Opeth.
    All I have to say…
