WHAT UP WITH THE SWORD?!?

Remember way back in early ‘06 when The Sword was all the hipster metal rage, and their debut album Age of Winters fucking slayed? Whatever happened to those fuckers? Last I heard, they were possibly tapped to open for Metallica (did that ever happen?), and that was quite a while ago. Maybe they got burnt out from all the constant touring and the massive hoopla surrounding their hype…or maybe they’re just patiently biding their time before recording another album…either way, this is a really long time, and the longer they wait, the more spectacular any new material needs to be.
So I looked around online for a minute, and quickly discovered that The Sword is indeed recording a new album, due out in March ‘08. Holla! I also learned that in the last couple years, not only did the band open for Lacuna Coil, In Flames, and Clutch in the States, but also Lamb of fuckin God over in Japan. That’s an eclectic line-up, no?
We may have to wait a few more months for the new record, but in the meantime, click on through to watch a couple noteworthy clips of unfamiliar (new?) songs performed by The Sword…
Some YouTube dude named Zodiacjack thinks this is a new song, and I will admit I have not heard this one either so I’m gonna go ahead and agree…very similar to the last batch of tracks, but pretty tasty nonetheless. I still think the drummer plays like how a Southern man would beat his kids — sturdy, whiskey-soaked, and strong.

And here’s The Sword covering the ZZ Top song “Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings”. We need more ZZ Top in our lives, don’t we?

the sword fuckin slays, all hail!! iron swan is my personal favorite
They have a new album coming out in ‘08.
I saw these guys at a new club in Chicago called Reggie’s last week, and they fuckin’ KILLED! They played a number of new songs ,and they were all amazing.
They played at the Bowery Ballroom two weeks ago, and they killed it. The new stuff is great – some are very ‘Age of Winters’-ish, and the rest are about twice as long and four times as epic as anything they’ve done.
They recently released a 12″ vinyl split with a swedish metal band Witchcraft – The Sword presents two songs – brand new “Sea Of Spears” and a kick ass cover of Led Zeppelin’s classic “Immigrant Song”. Check out this link for awesome cover art http://action-pr.com/uploads/art/96/SWORD_WITCHCRAFT_split_artwork.jpg
The Sword just played Bowery a few weeks ago, guys. They were alright, but a little flat and monotone for my taste. Valient Thorr opened and totally rocked the house though. Now THAT’s a band to catch their next time thru NYC.
did anyone else notice that the name of the club in the first vid is “emo’s”
who the fuck names their club emo’s?
The sword had their mail forwarded to the fucking edge, cause thats where they live.
(next to chuck norris)
fyi Emo’s is a great rock club in Austin, TX (home of The Sword) with 3 stages and an awesome booker…I’m told by Hurricane Fernando (who’s wrong about most things) that Emo’s is going to become a chain called “Emo’s Austin”, opening up similar spots in places like NYC and Vegas, and that the one in Austin will be called “Emo’s Austin Austin”. I have my doubts.
Song above is called “To Take The Black.” New album is going to slay, mark my words.
Rawk.
Oh and their split w/ Witchcraft is teh awesomes.
Despite questions reguarding their legitimacy, The Sword bring the riff both live and on record.
Saw em open for Clutch and they stole the show (which is impressive since we’re talking about the almighty Clutch)
