yawn. maybe i'm just getting old, but outside of the new thrash explosion... I couldn't give a rats ass about whatever the scene has to offer today. Also, I remember when Tool came out (I was in Jr. High), I thought they were boring and lame then, and i still feel the same way now. as for popular bands being better because they are popular... are you kidding me with this shit? BTBAM, LOG, etc. Will never have half the talent of Exodus or Candlemass. Think I'm just anti-mainstream? I'm a huge fan of Andrew WK, and The Darkness. as for the bands in Kips' list... (i'm rambing now) I think Early Man is good, but their credibility is questionable, as with another band who rule under dubious circumstances: The Sword. I want to believe these bands are true, but it all seems like a put-on. (Not unlike Goblin Cock)

Nick, just because the music you like is underground doesnt make it good. just bcuz TOOL is mainstream doesn't make it bad. this argument has been made since the beginning of time and will continue to be made until people start judging music on its inherent quality and not the hubbub that surrounds it. I think this site does a good job of judging music based on, THE MUSIC. Thats why Kip most likely listens and enjoys many of the bands you mentioned, yet makes a top 7 concert list w/ more mainstream metal bands that just tear it up live. Get over it.

In addition, I'm not a metalhead's metalhead. I love metal, i play metal, i think im sincere about it, but I also like some music that people find cheesy bcuz thats just who i am. that being said, I still hate A7x and BFMV....yet i like atreyu. so whatever. You prolly think im a nerd too for liking mainstream bands. Here's a hint: many metal bands are more popular than others bcuz they are really good. At least...some of them (like LOG and BTBAM, for example).

dead wrong, Seth. I just happen to be a metalheads' metalhead. No emo, metalcore, gothenburg, or rolling stone magazine darlings for me. Just sweet, sweet thrash, doom & power metal. Personal faves: Manowar, Venom, Exodus, Tankard, Candlemass, Dark Angel, Running Wild, Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Razor, Cirith Ungol etc.

Why should anyone feel the need to be underground? I'd say all the bands Kip listed are not even remotely mainstream with the exception, [maybe], of TOOL. Anyone who criticizes somebody else for not being "underground" enough is a hipster tool themself. Look in the mirror nick, you prolly secretly listen to fall Out Boy and 3 Days Grace while you rep your "im cooler than you cuz nobody has ever heard of the band on my t shirt" tee shirt. (not that theres anything wrong w/ FOB, they're great).

LAMB OF GOD, number fucking one!!! \m/

I got to see them twice this year and they killed it.

BTBAM was a totally different experience, but it was magical watching them pull off that whole album live, probably something they will never do again.

On a side note, I know someone here, either Axl, Vince, or Kip, knows the dudes in At All Cost. Please please please, tell them to come back to San Diego!
