MAC USERS AND OZZY FANS BUY MORE CDs

Amidst the news that Ozzy Osbourne’s latest ho-hum release Black Rain has been certified gold and AC/DC’s classic Back in Black just crossed the 22 million units sold in the U.S. mark, was this interesting bit: according to a report on Yahoo News [via Buzzgrinder] half of all Mac users in the third quarter paid to download tunes, compared with 16% of their PC-using counterparts. In addition, 32% of Mac users reported buying CDs in the third quarter of this year, compared with 28% of PC users.”
So, for you 14.5% of MetalSucks readers who use Macs and 84.33% of MetalSucks PC users… where do you fall?

Mac user. I pay for downloads on e-music mostly. I also rabidly buy real CDs. ‘course, my guitar player owns the local record store. Gotta support your friends.
PC User.
I just download most of music anymore. Most Mac users can’t figure out how to download music on their computers. That’s why they use Macs.
I have a mac, I download lots of music, I don’t really buy CDs anymore except ones I really enjoy or feel like I should support the artist.
Last CD I purchased: As I Lay Dying’s “An Ocean Between Us”
CD before that: I have no idea…might not have even been in 2007! No wait… Children of Bodom’s “Aren’t You Dead Yet?” and In Flames’ “Come Clarity”. Also excellent albums.
PC user. I’m probably 70% download (from eMusic or Amazon, no DRM in my music please!). The rest of my purchases are CDs… I usually discover a lot of bands on eMusic (Baroness, Exodus, Into Eternity), but if there is a band I really like that has an album coming out, I’ll buy the CD (BTBAM, AILD, Soilwork).
Side note… I still bet the actual number of album purchases by a PC user is higher than Mac. The reason being that there are more PC users than Mac users. If we have 100 PC users and 16% of them buy CDs, then 16 people bought CDs. If we have 10 Mac users and 32% of them buy CDs, then 3.2 people bought CDs… Never mind about that .8 of a person. Who knows what the hell he does.
BTW… not knocking on the Mac users. They’re pretty slick machines.
Man, yet another reason for mac users to be more elitist. “We are totally more loyal fans than PC users!”
PC user. I don’t dig Macs.
I spend most all my disposable income on liquor and Cds. I don’t like to download music.
I buy CD’s if the whole thing is worth it. I recently picked up the Justice CD and the new Thrice. And before those two the new A7X and ETID albums. I just like having a hard copy better than a file on a computer that could be erased from existence with the click of a mouse.
Btw, the only reason Ozzy sold that many CDs is because of the tickets that came with them, because it sure as hell couldn’t have been for the synthesized and auto-tuned mess that is Black Rain.
I also like to buy CDs with my disposble income. I’m from Peru, and here Cds are pretty expensive, so buying Cds here is like a guilty pleasure if you have the money. I don’t hesitate buying an album if the album is just damn good, of if I really like the artist’s work. The fact that more Mac users buy more albums is just a mere coincidence.
I am a musician and have years of bad karma coming to me for my music thievery habit. Its just too easy and convenient for me to download illegally. I try to justify it by going to lots of shows and buying artist merchandise, but I know that is an ill-fated justification for not supporting the music that makes my life infinitely better than it would be otherwise. That being said I will continue to illegally download bcuz I can access lots of music much faster, it skips the step of ripping a cd before it goes on my POD, and I hate record labels. Also I’m cheap.
