PHIL ANSELMO RATES HIS OWN ALBUM IN HIS TOP FIVE OF 2007

Phil AnselmoIn a recent list of musicians’ favorite albums of 2007 published at SMNnews.com, Down’s Phil Anselmo (ex-Pantera, Superjoint Ritual) rated his own release — Down’s Down III: Over the Under — in his Top 5 releases of 2007 list.

Really? I mean Down’s album was in my Top 10 list of 2007 too, but — His own fucking album? Is Anselmo that far gone that he doesn’t realize that Top 5 lists are for, ya know, OTHER bands’ albums? Is he actually that much of an egotist? Or is it possible he only listened to 4 other albums in 2007?

Anselmo’s other four picks, FYI, were Bad Brains’ Build a Nation, The Sursiks’ I Didn’t Know I Was Singing, Terra Diablo’s Deluge Songs, and Darkthrone’s F.O.A.D.

    Phil wasn’t the only guy who did that on that batch of SMN News lists. A bit big-headed, but look who we’re talking about here.

    Then again, it IS a pretty great record. He’s got every right to be proud of it. It’s just bad form.

    What better way to get your album and band in yet another line of another article. Many people are going to see this and go “what the hell?” and then go “well sh*t, it’s in a top 5 so I better listen to it…”

    that said of course, he is being kind of being a douchebag. But maybe when you’re Phil Anselmo you can be a d-bag.

    I recognize that it’s bad form, but honestly, you always hear people in bands talking about how they made the record that they wanted to hear, and I think that Phil is just being honest to that ideal. Clearly he really DID make a record that he wanted to hear and could get excited about. Really, I could never understand why when artists do these “top X” lists, they never list their own bands; it semmed like they weren’t proud of what they did. So I gotta big up Phil on this one, even though he’s a douche and Pantera is a shameless Exhorder rip off.
