ARE PROTEST THE HERO NEXT IN LINE FOR PROG-METAL ROYALTY?

At the Drive In, Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me… Protest the Hero. If that doesn’t satisfy the art-metal snobs amongst you, then I highly recommend you get that stick out of your ass, pronto. Protest the Hero is a talented bunch, and if the first single “Bloodmeat” is any indication, their new album Fortress is going to be one hell of a beautifully crafty and brutal roller-coaster ride. Think also: new MetalSucks darlings Sikth.

Check out the video below for their first single “Bloodmeat,” (the best part: no cliche metal video bullshit), and listen to the band’s past work at their MySpace page.

Fortress drops January 29 on Vagrant Records.

wow, that is a mighty fine tune you found there. No cookie cutter bullshit anywhere.
I could taste a little kse, a little human abstract, and even a little coheed. refreshing

  • Ryd1ZZ

Never heard these guys before. After that video, I’ll have to check out their previous stuff and new CD for sure. Thanks for the introduction Metalsucks!

Very nice, indeed. Thanks for the heads up!

  • Niggy Tardust

    oooooooh widescreen

yeah, this band is fucking awesome.

  • Kye

Glad people are finally starting to recognize these guys, cause they fucking own.

Kinda like Sikth, it took way too long for them to become “popular”.

Only downside to Protest the Hero is that I found out about them around the same time I discovered The Human Abstract, who I like a lot more, so I kinda forget about them a lot.

  • Fink

Great band. Strangely enough, I discovered them about the time I discovered MetalSucks. I probably listened to Kezia non-stop for nearly a month.

Honestly I wouldn’t have thought the MetalSucks crowd would be into these guys though (why, I don’t really know). Good to see we’re on the same page with this one.

“I probably listened to Kezia non-stop for nearly a month.”

    Ditto.

If you like this vid, you will love their last effort “Kezia”.

    Can’t wait for “Fortress”!!

  • Tag

First time I ever really gave these guy’s a chance… Glad I did! This song is fuckin good! The kinda breakdown part where they all start rockin the power chords is pristine!

  • Factor

I agree with Aaron – PS, great live too.

    Can’t wait for “Fortress”!!”

  • Luke

Note the guitarist wearing a Sikth shirt (missed by a lot in the US). Awesome band, followed for a while now and can’t wait for Fortress.

I like the song, but I don’t understand the comment about the lack of metal video cliches. The entire concept of a performance video where we just sit and watch the band play the song is cliche. Not to mention the shots of the singer off by himself. And the wide shot of the whole band unison headbanging. Close-ups of the fretboard while the guitarist does tapping. cliche, cliche, cliche. Am I wrong?

  • 36Thoughtless

You know, I’m gonna be really honest when I say I don’t understand the hype metalsucks is giving these guys. Their last album, “Kezia,” was extremely scattershot, and had maybe one memorable song off of it. It was chore to listen to because they were about fifty riffs strewn together per song. Also, the vocalist needs some work to sound at least little more manly. I’m sorry: Protest the Hero has not met my expectations.

  • Niggy Tardust

    @ 36Thoughtless:

    disagree.
