Well, not quite… but the newly christened custom Iron Maiden “Ed Force 1″ airplane — which singer Bruce Dickinson will pilot some 60,000 miles during the band’s 2008 World Tour — has taken to the skies as a regular commercial jetliner on British Airlines. The band has rented the newly re-skinned plane to the airline until the tour kicks off, and numerous fans have snapped pictures of the plane in action. Can you imagine going for a routine business flight and ending up in this monster?

As much I think Maiden has mostly re-released the same album the past few years (much like Aersmith has made a career of doing), there’s no way this is not the coolest thing ever. I wish these guys were coming to an arena near me so I could take my son, who wants to see Maiden before they retire. I’ve only seen them five times since the Powerslave tour.

this has “..In another plane-related rock band death…” written all over it.

A thing of beauty. Wish the tour was extended, particularly within the US.

I wonder if bruce has a seat cushion to prop him up a little higher and little boxes on his feet like short round to reach the peddels…
    he’s short

For some reason the sight of that plane makes me very sad. I think its because even the most popular modern day metal bands have no prayer in hell to ever afford their own airplane. It seems the only bands big enough to fly around the world in an airplane are playing for the generation before the internet killed the “rock star”. Now, while I don’t particularly like rock stars, and like the modern day way of music to the masses…its still sad that musicians cant get rich anymore. I think i would be less upset if professional athletes weren’t making such a disgusting amount of money. Similar talent is not providing similar results in two of the “i have a dream” professions.

  6. [...] possibly the best thing ever. Not only is it timely by way of referencing the band’s recent Bruce Dickinson-piloted jet jaunt around the world, it’s fun as hell and easy to play. And like all classic, simple games, it gets fucking hard [...]
