SLAUGHTER OF THE SOLD: THE AT THE GATES CASH-IN CONTINUES

Monday, January 14th, 2008 at 12:03pm by Axl Rosenberg

You can’t blame At the Gates for wanting to get paid by doing some reunion shows; every metal band from Killswitch Engage to The Black Dahlia Murder is finding success ripping off ATG, so why shouldn’t they make a quick buck?

So in what seems like an obvious effort to build even more reunion hype and get more Hot Topic kids to purchase copes of Slaughter of the Soul, Earache has now announced the forthcoming release of a special edition of that seminal album:

“A recently unearthed live show from seminal Swedish Death Metallers At the Gates will form part of a limited edition version of their classic 1995
album Slaughter of the Soul, to be released on March 10 in Europe and
March 25 in North America.

“Issued as a 2 disc set containing the original album, 6 bonus songs and the
35 minute The Making of Slaughter of the Soul documentary, the release
now boasts a full live set filmed live in Krakow, Poland 30th December 1995, when the band toured with Unleashed.”

Uh,  I guess this could be cool. But to be honest, I’m not too psyched by this clip of the band performing “Cold” from the live DVD:

What do you kids think?

This is some more bullshit from earache. I bought the 2 disc SOTS rereissue last year with the bonus tracks and making of dvd, now they reissue it again with a live show.

  2. I think it looks pretty fucking rad!

  3. Kye says:

I agree with aron, I own the exact same thing but without the live show…oh well, I’ll prolly end up getting it anyway. There aren’t a lot of cds out worth buying anymore anyway.

You’d think by now that everyone that wanted a copy of Slaughter of the Soul would own one.

I would really like to see them perform, but these reissues are ugly and useless

It kinda of bugs me that this is the second repacking of Slaughter since I bought my copy (man you kids make me feel old…come around and let grampa tell you about the time he first saw In Flames in concert). But I really dig that video clip. Their performance was pretty good, tight playing and I like the way they played that solo Bachesque. I don’t know if I will rebuy it for that, though.

    Somehow i enjoy the rip-off bands a bit more…

  7. Ken M says:

hahah listen to the way he says “I wanna see you guys move” before they start the song.

  8. chris says:

Well…just because a band rip-offed another band, doesn’t mean the original is the best. They should be given respect though.

At The Gates, great band btw.
