CINEMETAL: DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN – “MILK LIZARD”

Thursday, January 24th, 2008 at 1:05pm by Vince Neilstein

Dillinger Escape Plan have released the new video for the Faith No More-esque song “Milk Lizard” from their recent album Ire Works. The video was shot a day after guitarist Ben Weinman broke his foot while shooting the video for “Black Bubblegum,” but from the way he rocks out in this video, you’d never know he rolled up to the shoot in a wheelchair (check out Kip’s hilarious interview with Ben Weinman about his broken foot and why God hates the Jews.). As expected, this is a very creative video from a very creative bunch of dudes.

  1. Is that Every Time I Die?

I know I’m going to catch shit for this, but I feel it must be said.

I’ve never been a DEP fan and I certainely didn’t think that highly of the latest offering. I’m not here to slag the band, as it’s merely an issue of taste.

I have to say though, I love this song, and if it was representative of the rest of the CD, I would have bought it. Alas, every time I hear this song I just think to myself “what if…’

Take it easy on me eh folks? I know it topped everyone’s top ten lists but I just don’t get it I guess. Cool video though!

I’m with Ozzyzak, I heard so many good things about this band from this site and when I checked them out on myspace, it started playing milk lizard. I thought, from that track, that this album was going to be badass. I was wrong, the rest of the cd was weak and kind of annoying. I freakin love BTBAM and other “prog metal” bands but I just don’t “get” these guys. To each their own i guess.

Nah, you guys are wrong. “Ire Works” was the best album of 07. Listen again.

Yea i’ve never been much of DEP fan either, but this song is very cool. especially diggin’ the horns and piano.

can anyone give me a comparison of this to their old stuff and the rest of the album?

That was the coolest video about flying bar stools that I’m going to see all night.

Regarding a comparison of this to their old stuff… I had picked up Calculating Infinity a while ago for Sugar Coated Sour and 43% Burnt and really didn’t like the rest of the album. Miss Machine featured their new singer and a semi-poppy song called Unretrofied that pissed off a bunch of their older fans. To me, this album has the sound of the better songs of CI, with the more of the stuff that alienated the people who wanted a sequel to CI. It’s a very divirse album. If I had to put “labels” on it, it remindes me of Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Every Time I Die, and Meshuggah. It’s all over the place, and it’s rewarding album after a few listens.

And to bring it home, this song doesn’t sound like any other song on the album. The next closest would be Black Bubblegum, but after that, it’s mostly spastic metal. :)

FUCK. I HATE headbangers blog. I can’t see a fu**ing video, because i live in Europe. Use a damn flash player bi**hes!

  8. So “Milk Lizard” just came on shuffle and I gotta admit– for all its Every-Time-I-Die-ripoff-meets-slightly-generic-metalcore-chorus, I kinda dig it. Maybe they DO know what they’re doing…
