Just a quick comment: excellent article. It's awesome to see good music sites writing about good music for a change.

The first Cave In song I heard was "Jupiter." I lost it, but couldn't find out the name of the band when I heard it. Then I heard "Devil's Head Piñata" and I got ahold of the band's name. When I heard those songs I flipped. Those songs (and the albums I bought shortly thereafter) changed everything I thought I knew about music.

Just as a heads up; I don't think the guys would mind if I tell you that you can find a couple "harder to find" Cave In songs floating around in mp3 land on the web. Go to hypem.com and you'll be able to find "Inflatable Dream" (which I had heard about but couldn't find for a while). Also, go to http://besttuna.blogspot.com/2007/10/devils-words-of-wisdom-in-nme.html for Cave In covering "Dazed and Confused."

The bunch o' beer I'll be drinking tonight will be offered up in the hopes of invoking a Cave In release in the near future.

Once again, great write-up.

just a little clarification, JR left the band summer of 2005 due to a serious hand injury, not to mention he was living in germany at the time. hes now back in boston and im pretty sure when the band plays again he will be involved.

also, the octave museum "broke up" over the summer, but basically re-emerged a week later as pet genius, with a JR on drums and a new batch of songs.
http://www.myspace.com/petgenius

this isnt like nearly every other band "hiatus" which ends up being a breakup. all the guys are still friends and still working together in one way or another, be it side projects, touring or recording. if these guys ever are all living in the same area again, believe that they will return and kick our asses with incredible music once again.

I talked to Stephen in April, he said they're all still in touch and future work is possible. My favorite tracks not appearing above are "Down the Drain" (still a free MP3 on their site) and "In the Stream of Commerce."

i fucking agree man. this band is unknown to anyone who doesn't have a bit of an obsession with the late-90s/early00s boston metal and hardcore scene, but they have some of the most consistently best albums.. i remember a few years ago when metalcore became mtv2's thing and some of my acquintances who liked mudvayne started to get into atreyu and as i lay dying. i told them what i felt was true: "forget about all those bands and listen to 'until your heart stops', cause that's the only metalcore cd that will ever really matter"
