LIVING SACRIFICE GETS BACK TOGETHER

Living Sacrifice

<begin sarcasm> It may not be as headline-grabbing as the Pretty Boy Floyd or Warrant reunions <end sarcasm>, but Buzzgrinder reports that Arkansas-based metalcore pioneers Living Sacrifice have reformed, will tour this summer, and are prepping a new album for release in 2008.

For those not in the know (like, um, me) Living Sacrifice formed in 1990 and released three records locally before getting picked up by Tooth & Nail / Solid State Records in 1996. Around this time the band fused their death and thrash metal influences with a punk and hardcore element, creating “metalcore” long before anyone called it that and even longer before it became a bad word. Perhaps we missed the boat on these dudes because of their Christian-leaning tendencies, but frankly they’re a damn good band and shouldn’t be overlooked. By all accounts, the band absolutely rips it live. Hopefully we’ll have the chance to catch them this summer.

One of my all time favorite bands. Why does the Jesus factor determine a band. Frankly I think it is awesome. They need to make The Hammering Process II

I never minded them, but c’mon. Their sound is the same as pretty much any band on NYHC: The Way It Was that was released ages before they were in the ’scene’ proper. Beside that they were the latest in a string of bands who took the 108/Judge/Burn sound and ran with it.
It was the mainstream bullshit music press that coined the phrase ‘metalcore’ for a style of music that existed a solid 8 years before Living Sacrifice hit the scene ‘proper’ in 1996.
That said, good to see them make another go at it. They are still better than a lot of the so called ’second-gen metalcore’ acts (who are more like 4th gen at least).

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! These Christian posers just followed trends their whole career. First they played death metal (in the early 90’s, when it was ‘cool’) , then changed to Nu/Metalcore when that became popular. besides, its the gayest thing in the world to growl ‘praise the lord’ and other such nonsense in Metal.

Death to Christanity in the Metal scene!

  8. Mose says:

“besides, its the gayest thing in the world to growl ‘praise the lord’ and other such nonsense in Metal.” What album was that lyric on, chumpcicle?

  9. Kyle M. says:

What exactly makes them posers? Changing their style up? I think that just comes along with the territory of having a different line-up. And to correct your sentiment, Living Sacrifice didn’t change to ‘metalcore’ when it became popular. Quite the opposite, actually. They were a pioneering band of the whole ‘metalcore’ genre, but they did it all with sincerity and good taste.

As far as being Christian is concerned… Who gives a shit? I wouldn’t consider myself a Christian, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t enjoy a band that happens to be Christian. I feel the same way about metal bands that talk about Satanism… If I can identify with their music, then I’ll probably listen to it. Doesn’t mean I have to be homeboys with Anton LeVay.
