i heard recently that converge are ‘casually writing material for a new album’

so i expect there cud be a new converge album sometime in 2009, i sure fucking hope so :D

This is an amazing retrospective of an incomparable band. I didn’t know anyone who listened to Converge while I was still cutting my underground metal teeth back in the late 90’s although i had read about them in numerous zines, and I got distracted by learning about Dillinger Escape lpan and meshuggah, and i wasn’t too keen on Coalesce because of Sean ingram’s vocals, but when I bought Jane Doe, I realized immediately that it would be just about the most important heavy release of the new millenium. Case in point…the twisted swamp muck of the song Hell To Pay, my personal favorite song from that album, it highlights kurts ability to take a melody and shade it and twist it just so, tweaking it enough to really get that foul taste going. The looseness sounds natural, and the violence lurks right around the corner. They are amazing. I have never heard any of these older songs, so thanks.

I’m casually obsessed with Converge at times, and I’ve seen them several times. At each of the shows I’ve been to, Jake thanks the audience for supporting “aggressive music.” I think the guys of the band shy away from labeling the music for the reasons listed above. Aggressive, extreme, intense… all accurate.

Great spotlight. I just want to agree with your analysis of You Fail Me being kind of looked over being Jane Doe’s follow-up and all. I would say it’s my favorite Converge album, no question. Definitely hope it gets more attention eventually.
