SO WHAT DO WE THINK OF THE NEW IN FLAMES SINGLE?

mirror.jpgIn Flames’ new single, “The Mirror’s Truth,” debuted on the radio last night. If you missed it, there are decent quality radio rips floating all over the internet, although Nuclear Blast is pulling ‘em down just as quickly as they can (one of the reasons I’m not even gonna bother posting a link here).

Now, Vince and I love, love, LOVE In Flames, but – and I can’t speak for Vince, only for myself – this song does not immediately make my ears perk up. It just seems kinda… blah. But then, I wasn’t that into “Take this Life” when I first heard it, either, and now I think it’s a pretty good song (for the record, yes, I agree that old In Flames is superior to new In Flames, but no, I did not think Come Clarity sucked – actually, I thought it was a really good album). I hope this song grows on me, too, because I’d like nothing more than for this new offering, A Sense of Purpose, to be good (well… maybe I’d like a bj from that chick from In This Moment more, but that’s neither here nor there).

So for those of you that have heard the song, time to weigh in: what do you think of it?

UPDATE: The new single “The Mirror’s Truth” is now available on In Flames’ MySpace page.

I haven’t heard the song. By enlarge – I think Inflames writes about 1 good song per cd. They have like 50 releases so they’ve amassed a decent set they can play live if they choose too.

While not as immediately catchy as “Take This Life,” it’s still got all the hallmarks of modern IF – euro-metal riffs and a somewhat memorable chorus. I think it’s a grower.

Well, I agree that it doesn’t hit me the same way Take This Life did, but I think that has more to do with the audio quality than anything, you can’t really get the impact of anything except Anders voice(which I think sounds the best it ever has since he changed from the growling he did back on Whoracle).

Anyway, I really love the song, and I’m so fucking excited for this cd. Also, the rip of Disconnected that’s floating around out there is pretty wicked too, and if the rest of the album is as good as those two songs, it’ll be better than Come Clarity(which rocked…but had a few songs that I never listen to).

I agree with Kye, in that a lot of it lies in the audio quality. It’s so much better produced than previous offerings. i.e., sounds like they moved out of the garage. And – shocker – I like the vocals better ~ aggro yet somewhat clean.

    meh.

I watched the video and it didn’t do anything for me. I enjoyed come clarity but disliked soundtrack. I thought R2R was a decent album. It’s like every other cd is hit or miss. I’ll put money down and give it a whirl, I support bands that I enjoy!

It’s a pretty good song, it just doesn’t offer anything new. As such, people are already bored with it. When you have a career as long as In Flames’ has been you need to keep reinventing yourself to a certain degree to keep it fun for your fans and creatively challenging for yourself. The was a clear evolution with In Flames all the way up through Reroute To Remain, then things got stagnant.

Soundtrack To Your Escape was absolutely horrible. A complete waste. Come Clarity was actually pretty good, but just a poppier version of Reroute To Remain. This sounds like it could potentially be a watered down version of Come Clarity. You can only distill your own sound so much before it become empty.

I love In Flames, but it may be time to move on.

haha looks like I’m the only one who thinks this song is an improvement

But anyway, after listening to a slightly better quality version(one where it doesn’t sound like Anders is just singing over a loud noise), I think the song gets a lot more memorable. It’s got some nice guitar work (kinda sounds like a point between Clayman and Come Clarity), and, maybe it’s just me, but it sounds like Daniel’s gotten a lot better at drums, he actually does stuff for once.

  • Alkahest

It’s pretty good. It’s on their myspace now. Disconnected it floating around the internet. That’s a better song, imo.

But overall, I like Come Clarity better. Just judging on these two songs.

It’s definitely not blowing me away on the first listen, but I think it will grow on me after a few spins. I own everything by IF (with the exception of Soundtrack). Come Clarity was a great record, it if this one matches in quality, I’ll be happy. And I think the experience was better without the video. You focus more on what the fuck the creepy heads are doing rather than listening to the music.

I can’t believe there are so many lukewarm comments. Guys, this song fucking sucks! It’s horrible! Come Clarity was a weak release but OK, it wasn’t unbearable. It was a shame for IF, we’ve all seen it coming a long way down the road.

In case you had any doubts about this song sucking, please look at the album art, and then watch the video. Yes, I judge those things.

it was ok… the album artwork is gay

I love their blueprint but I feel like they keep using cheaper materials with each release….. I really want to love it, but its just barely missing the mark…. still gonna buy it and jam it though….
