WHEN IT COMES TO TURISAS, WE’RE WILLING TO BE HYPOCRITES

turisas_varangian.jpgYes, yes, we’ve spoken out many times against record labels re-releasing albums with “bonus material” just a year after they came out, and so it is more than a little hypocritical of us to support an “expanded edition” re-release of Turisas’ latest album, The Varangian Way. And, yes, let’s just get this out of the way right now: we are one of the co-sponsors of the Paganfest USA tour, on which Turisas will appear. So this post would, by all means, appear to be a case of corporate “You Scratch My Back” bullshit.

But here’s why you should completely ignore our hypocrisy and just buy the re-release of The Varangian Way: because it’s an awesome album, and because, unlike so many of these recent double-dips,  you don’t already own it. We know you don’t already own it because, well, here in the United States it seems like most people we meet don’t already own it (The band is already very big in Europe, so to our readers across the pond: Good work. You can ignore the rest of this article.).

So here’s your big chance! On April 29, Century will re-release the album with the video for “Rasputin” (which you can watch in sub-DVD quality here), along with live performances filmed last year at the Download, With Full Force and Rock Hard festivals, plus some more live footage captured at several of the band’s non-festival gigs. And, like we said, the album itself is the tits, so you should own a copy anyway.

So, like we said, those of you don’t already own this album should buy a copy of the new edition – it won’t be a second purchase for you, so you can’t feel ripped off about it (If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s new to you!). And for those of you that do already own the album, well, go buy this new version anyway. Because MetalSucks told you to.

A complete Paganfest USA tour itinerary is after the jump; if you wanna hear some awesome samples off of The Varangian Way, head over to Turisas’ MySpace page.
