patton automatorAccording to the Ipecac Records website, Mike Patton is working on yet another side project with Dan the Automator, with whom he collaborated for the Lovage and Peeping Tom projects. According to an update posted yesterday:

Also wanted to let you know that there is a new Patton project that is about to show it’s face. Yeah, another one. Seems that Mike and Dan the Automator have been cooking up some music and after a little marinating are about to reveal…….. CRUDO. Not much is known about Crudo, but we know this, they will be playing the super cool music festival, Sasquatch, at the end of May in the state of Washington at the Gorge.

Alright, cool, so more Patton music that sounds nothing like Faith No More. Alrighty then. I actually liked the Peeping Tom record, but still I’d love to hear something with more balls along the lines of Tomahawk. I’ll keep waiting.

There’s an interview with Mike and Dan up here: http://www.self-titledmag.com/2008/02/27/qa-with-crudo-interview-by-andrew-parks/#more-54

It was conducted before the Crudo announcement but it’s still pretty thorough and entertaining.

Lovage was the bomb live…. Find a bootleg or a video on youtube and see what it was all about. A FNM reunion will never happen. neither will a bungle reunion. I’d prefer the later

Have you heard Tomahawk’s new record, Anonymous? That shit SLAYS! It’s definetly not metal, or even really hard rock. It’s Patton-ized versions of traditional Native American music, which sounds totally gay until you hear it.

P.S. Fantomas has balls out their dicks, but that’s just my opinion.

  • Porkpsam

uhm rob… is that balls out their dicks thing about fantomas a good thing?

I’m not a fan. Mike Patton seems like a total snob. I remember a youtube video w/ him ripping on Wolfmother who was onstage at a festival where the interview took place. He was ripping on Wolfmother’s music, and all I could think of was how much better Wolfmother’s music was than anything this over-rated celebutaunt has released over the past 15 years. I’m not even a fan of Wolfmother.

  • Rob

Porkspam: It was intended as a good thing. They have so much balls that their balls are coming out their dicks. I think.

But seriously: Fantomas. It’s Trevor Dunn, Buzz Osbourne, Dave “Motherfucking” Lombardo, and Mike Patton making cartoon sounds. Pretty killer shit. “Director’s Cut” is a good starting point, check their killer versions of The Godfather Theme, Theme From The Omen, and Fire Walk With Me.

    this ones for ERiK
How could you say wolfmother is better than anything he’s done? All wolfmother is was a hyped up re-release of 70′s rock material. At least patton in his 15 years or whatever has been pushing boundries that have led to other bands and styles (some good some band) taking his stuff and progressing it further. Wolfmother is 2 steps back, stop and shit and drop dead. Patton is 6 steps forward and going. He has every right to “rip” on wolfmother and if you watch that clip again (search youtube for peepin tom patton lollapalooza or something) you’ll probably find out that he A) wasn’t as mean as you remember and B) he was 100% correct. I mean shit you said you don’t like fucking wolfmother yourself, so you’re already in agreement with the guy. So why are you mad at him? the fact that he stated he didn’t like a band, which you also don’t seem to like, and people listened to him, and don’t tend to give a shit about it when you say it?

I’ve said ti before and I’ll say it again! I love Mike Patton, Secret Chiefs 3, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, Fantomas, WHATEVER!

My current attention is on the Patton Parody Album:

Chief Secrets of a Bungling Empire Unexpectedly Hidden in Gernal Patton’s Tomahawk Museum?

Patton is great, but he IS NOT in Secret Chiefs 3. Let’s also give due credit to the great musicians that Patton surrounds himself with.
