NEW MUSIC FROM OLD SCHOOL HESHERS TESTAMENT

Testament

Pretty much every metal site has already posted this news, but fuck it, it’s news-worthy: classic thrash band Testament have posted new music on their MySpace page. The new song “More Than Meets the Eye” comes from their new album The Formation of Damnation due April 29th on Nuclear Blast, the first to feature long-departed guitarist Alex Skolnick since 1992′s The Ritual.

If there’s one thing evident from this new song, it’s that Testament still know how to kick up a fucking metal groove like nobody’s business. After seeing Exodus last month absolutely destroy a New York audience, we’re starting to wonder — what is it about these supposed “B” rate thrash acts, 20+ year later, that actually seems to have outlasted, in terms of quality, the supposed “A” thrash acts like Metallica and Megadeth? Did success get to the heads of those bands, extinguishing the fire inside that bands Testament and Exodus still have burning bright? Whatever it is, Testament still have it; this song is pretty fucking sick.

I think Metallica and Megadeth have gotten so big and complacent that they don’t really have anything to be upset about. Their futures are assured and they can retire whenever. Exodus has had a lot to prove to stay relevant, and all of their albums since the comeback have been absolutely incredible. Testament and Death Angel have been pretty similar.

ehh, it’s not bad…but kinda lame Avenged Sevenfold influence going on there (which is weird to say)

For my money, Skolnick is one of the sickest, most talented guitarists I’ve ever heard or seen play. I was lucky to catch The Ritual tour way back whenever that was.

@Christopher: I am one of the few here to admit to liking Avenged 7fold, but I don’t hear it at all on this track. Just good thrashy Testament.

This sounds NOTHING like Avenged Sevenfold!

I think it has more in common with the heavier stuff on “The Ritual” but with much better production behind it.

Sound a lot like their 2 James Murphy albums (low and the gathering). It has taken them long enough, illness aside. Hopefully this will be my new summer driving soundtrack.

    Testament fucking rules!

    Sorry, flashbacks…they still rule!

I was going to question your metal integrity if you didn’t post on this song. This is my most anticipated album right now.

    Yay new testament!

I would chalk Testament sounding better than modern day Metallica & Megadeth to Skolnick being about a 10 times better guitarist either of those bands has ever employed (Chris Broderick not withstanding; he’s gangster)

New track sounds killer (and nothing like A7X)

I have been waiting for this record for to long now (Those assholes finally decided to stop milking the fucking cow (the Gathering) ). After hearing their new track, this will probably be the biggest letdown of 2008. Sounds fucking weak, lame, heavy in a cheesy way & the vocal really sucks hardcore (old day testament) it was good back then, not today. I should not act so surprised, The Gathering was simply too godlike to top a second time, that album is in my top 5 metal album of all-time. It is like thinking that the next Judas Priest album will be as godlike as Painkiller or the next Nevermore to be as godlike as This Godless Endeavor…simply impossible.

The new track sounds pretty good. Off the top of my head it kind of reminded me of SWTWC Iced Earth (though maybe they were pulling in some Testament influence during that record). All that really needs to be said is that “More than Meets the Eye” is pretty damn kick-ass. Hopefully they do some major touring this summer in the states.
