PS: Ever notice how bad metal sounds as a ring-tone? Its just noise. Its damn anoying when someone’s phone goes off with some bad metal. Its a general lack of dynamics.

Subgenres are worthless in general. All they try to do is better describe crap. But crap is crap, no matter how many adjectives you throw at it. There does seem to be two major types of metal, though. Smart and Bad. Smart metal consists of stuff actually interesting to listen to like Opeth, Lamb of God, or even Tool. They are not for everyone, but at least their songs have varying structure and pretty unique sound. Then there is bad metal, where someone is always yelling in a demon voice into the mic, the drums are just going off on rumbling tangents that have nothing to do with the guitars, and the overall sound is forgetable from one track to the next. Bad metal vocals is what kills it for me. Why is the guy pretending to be a monster? You know he probably sounds like a pussy in his normal voice. And doing the monster sound means he does not have to hit any notes or even create melodies in his compositions. So stop with the subgenres. Just list them Smart or Bad.

What the hell is Gothic glam metal ? You arse , Maiden always have and always will be a HEAVY METAL band , none of your sub genres , which weren’t around when they started , tough if you cant handle that , but it’s the truth . MAIDEN ARE METAL .

Punk vocals are known to be sub-standard too but they can also be unique or often FUNNY or, like singer/songwriters they make up for not having the best voice by having good songs with interesting lyrics. Interesting would be (for starters) anything more towards something a little more original than just following the same stupid blood and guts formula as all of the other wanna be pretenders out there. Because that’s what metal really is. The bulk of all metal is made by pretentious pretenders. Because if you are serious about metal vocals then you are tone deaf, and if you are serious about metal lyrics then you are retarded. Metal is really lacking the ability to laugh at itself in those two areas in particular. Metal is too up it’s own ass and so are it’s fans. It’s kind of sad really.

Metallica sucks so bad now. Green Day makes them look like little pussies. Green Day only has one bad album. Metallica has a whole shitload of them.

Green Day makes better music and better albums than Slayer or Metallica. I’ll give it to early Slayer and Metallica for guitar solos and riffs, but other than that it’s a trend and a fad that you outgrow. Metal is for immature freaks who play Halloween into their 90′s. None of them give a fuck about music or songs. They just like to be edgy and they think that guitar solos gives them the right yo say that they are more musical but really they just hide behind the only musical aspects of metal, the riffs and solos, to justify all of the other immature stupid junk in metal, the bulk of which is all just a bunch of immature bullshit and teen angst nonsense. 99% of all metal is just garbage and bullshit. Real singing counts, not this pretend-we’re tough, pretend, METAL-singing crap.Real vocal harmonies count, not those fake, sickly-sounding 80′s glam-METAL vocals.Real lyrics count too, not those pretend you are tough and badass childish metal lyrics.

And Iron Maiden is just gothic glam-metal.

One thing Maiden has going for them is that they are one of the few older bands who are multi-generational in their appeal. Scan the crowd of any Maiden concert and you’ll see as many 17-year-old sons as you will their 43-year-old dads in the crowd. So they repackage a best of together and essentially sell it as “new” to the younger fans.

How many best ofs and live albums do they have now? And who doesn’t have their 80s albums anyways? They should do a best of the rest: those three blaze era songs they still do (sign of the cross, the clansman, and man on the edge) and some of their best from the reunited with Bruce era.
