SLASH’S NOT VERY STRONG DENIAL OF VELVET REVOVLER’S IMMINENT DEMISE

slash.jpgMan oh man, even if you don’t think that any of the members of Velvet Revolver are musically relevant anymore, you gotta admit, all this drama keeps shit interesting.

So after Scott Weiland publicly declared last week that VR are currently finishing out their “last tour,” he and Matt Sorum started trading barbs over the ‘net. Sorum just made reference to “some people” while Weiland called Sorum out by name, so I guess depending on how you wanna look at it, either Sorum was too classy to specifically lash out at Weiland, or Weiland just has bigger balls than Sorum; in any case, there have been rumors that these two don’t like one another pretty much since the band’s inception, so all this bickering isn’t, like, hugely surprising or anything.

So now Slash, ever the diplomat, has thrown his two cents in, making this super powerful statement: “Well, let’s put it this way — this is not Velvet Revolver’s last tour.” Wow. I’m sure such a bold declaration instills confidence in the hearts of VR fans everywhere.

Now, VR do, contractually speaking, owe RCA one more album; if someone threatens Weiland with a lawsuit, I could see him phoning in another tour to support said offering. And I have no doubt that Slash dreams of following in the footsteps of his heroes in the Stones and Aerosmith and making mediocre corporate rock well into his Viagra years. Still, I hope he’s learned from his past: in a situation like this, it may be best to get in, amass as much cash possible, and then get back out. No supergroup can last forever.

Who would find Slash musically irrelevant?? Gibson sells a Les Paul with his name emblazoned all over it, Guitar Hero has his likeness in it’s #1 selling game, he’s on TV adverts for GH and was prominently seen on VW ads a very short while ago and his band has sold very well relative to the current music era.

The hardcore metal heads here may find their music weak or not heavy enough, but with respect to relevancy, I’m betting Slash will be more of a household name into his 60s than any member of At the Soiled Gates of Mercenary Throwdown Seeing Through the Eyes of this Moment will ever be. Not that you have to be a corporate whore to be relevant, and not that those bands are not good, but c’mon…is this even an argument?

Tbh, it’s a shame that this situation has got out of control. My opinion is, Weiland is a douche and trying to throw his influence around to see what he can get away with.

Slash should get out ASAP, he could do so much better

I hope you’re wrong about Slash, Axl. (heh, heh). Even in Velvet Revolver’s music (which I’m no fan of by any stretch of the etc.), the guy really can make a guitar sing. His tone is incredible, and his worst solos are often good at least.

But watching this VR back and forth is just fucking irritating. It’s not like this is a major band (and fuck the debut numbers, this band never was, isn’t now, and never shall be a major band), but we’re getting endless updates from them as if this is a band anyone will truly miss. Just….break…..up.

Isn’t it obvious that we all want a fucking GNR reunion? Just let us have it!

Well the band may well live on. But with the recent shows that they’ve done without weiland on vocals, I think even at one asking for audience singers to come up and help, this won’t be any good. The link says they got the opening slot for the Zepplin reuinion. Too bad robert plant has gone on record to say he will not be doing this tour. I guess everyone is just living in fantasy land.

    Im thinking… new vocalist perhaps…?
Could make things quite interesting I guess…

Slash’s best band was Slash’s Snake Pit. VR sucks – Die.

  7. [...] off-guard. Matt Sorum then took a thinly-veiled swipe at Weiland, Weiland retorted, and Slash came back with his usual, “let’s all just play rock n’ roll, dude!” [...]

GUNS-N-ROSES REBIRTH PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN
