CHRIS CORNELL + TIMABALAND = ???

People Magazine is reporting that Chris Cornell’s (ex-Soundgarden, ex-Audioslave) third solo album will be produced by hip-hop guru Timbaland (Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, etc). Said Timbaland, “This is the best work I’ve done in my career,” and said Cornell, “This is the most excited I’ve been about an album in years. The music is natural, not self-conscious … open.” Timbaland said he is currently mixing the album and hopes to release it within a month (!).
This is either going to be the worst rap/rock combination since Limp Bizkit and Method Man’s “N 2 together now” (confession: I liked this song when it came out. It was still 10x better than any proper Limp Bizkit songs) or the most genius collaboration since Mike Patton and Dan the Automator. Or it could just sound like an ordinary rock record… and be mostly uninteresting like Cornell’s last effort.

voting on ‘ordinary’. will to listen: -29
(and I even bought “Euphoria Morning”)
(yes, Chris, it was me)
Timbaland producing ‘rock and roll’. I guess it was bound to happen eventually… Ugh.
its gonna blow
Didn’t Timbaland already produce a Fall Out Boy track? Anyway, this is going to suck b/c of Cornell.
I think Cornell is the best rock singer of his generation, but his solo efforts are just weak, diluted, wimp rock. But a rap producer doesn’t necessarily mean the record will have a rap sound. Cornell has proven that simply having musical talent doesn’t automatically translate to writing good songs, however.
Timbaland fucked the quintessential Duran Duran sound and flipped it on it’s ear. I expect the same for Cornell.
Wow. A lot of people here aren’t very good at recognizing great music. Euphoria Morning was a (mostly) phenomenal record. It’s follow up was empty though. And don’t get me started on that Audioslave atrocity. I’m sure glad we won’t have to be subjected to that crap anymore.
Why won’t Chris record with Thayil again? Pleeeeeaaase???
I actually listen to hip-hop and used to be a big fan of Timbaland but his talent died with Aaliyah.
cornell = old washed up sellout
This album is gonna be awesome. Don’t judge it before you hear it people! I think its gonna suprise everyone.
[...] to the tour to skip this summer. As of late, Chris Cornell seems to be going out his way to become a caricature of his former self, 10 Years, Hawthorne Heights and Armor for Sleep all blow goats, and even though I liked some of [...]
Can’t wait to hear this! Timbaland calling it the best work of his career sounds very promising. Cornell wouldn’t do it if it didn’t sound decent either. Love Cornell – he is a genius! Done so many awesome things in his career! Euphoria Morning is a classic album! Love his rockier stuff with audioslave and soundgarden too! His Billie Jean cover has just gone huge in the states. It was on his last solo album – Carry On (2007). Some awesome tracks on that too – Dissapearing Act, Ghosts, No Such Thing, Arms Around Your Love, and his rocking bond theme – No Such Thing. Bring on the new album and a tour!
some of you are pure morons. cornell sucks? please his solo efforts, even weak, are still better than most of the rock out there. fall out boy, simple plan, hinder, AFI, daughtry, all those bands blow. cornell with audioslave, soundgarden, and temple of a dog out does any new rock band of the last 10 years (new bands formed not ones still around like foo fighters, chili peppers, etc) can you honestly tell me bands like AFI and simple plan are better? if you think so youre an idiot. plain and simple
some of you must not know anything about rock music. rock music today is so bad it makes me sick. im 22 and grew up with 90’s rock and i love 70’s rock. rock today does NOT HOLD a candle to what was made in the past.
and i saw cornell twice last year. his voice is still more powerful than these studio bands who rely on studios to sound good. he has raw power that most rock stars only dream of.
his voice is still one of the best, if not the best out there in rock. i am not bias i like a lot of rock singers out there as well
I am very much looking forward to this album. I don’t know much about Timberland, but I think Cornell is one of the most versatile, innovative and talented rock musicians in history. He is not afraid to push the boundaries which, unfortunately, is what many in the music industry love so much. Pigeonholing artists into neat little categories. I say, thank goodness for people like Timberland and Cornell who are willing to step outside of the square.
I’m so looking forward to this album, if any of you have listened to Cornells interviews and media releases he is calling this is best work to date. there is excitment in his voice about this one. Now Cornell is not one to come out and say such things unless we are definately in for a treat. Cornell has dared to step outside the boundries of what we have come to know him as a rock, grunge legend for that I’m so impressed and it just adds to the respect I have for such an awesomely talented artist.
I’ve got a great feeling about this collaboration and Timberland and Cornell are going to be something awesome.
I feel a grammy coming on !
I consider myself a big fan of Chris Cornell’s lyrics and voice. From whatever record he have been a part of, under whatever bandname. But what I’m affraid of, is -loosely qouted- from Timbaland “He’ll be the first rock star in the clubscene” Or however he said it. When you get your music played in a club/discoteque that in my world, isn’t being a rockstar.
And I am even more affraid that the whole CD will end up with that same Timbaland sound, every other CD he produced have.
But yes. I guess we all have to wait for yourselves to hear it.
Anybody know of a release date ? I can’t seem to find one.
Michael.

You guys are a bunch of fags…seriously. I guarentee you that both Chris Cornell and Timbaland throw away better shit than any of you could ever write….prove me wrong.
I listened to the first two songs on his myspace..deleted him as my friend..I am heartbroken and betrayed…..dont buy in to this crap.
This may actually turn out to be decent. Or it may end up being something that sounds good but has no substance, not unlike much of both men’s previous work.
I just saw Chrisbaland play in Seattle….was utterly pathetic….my buddy and I walked out 30 mins into the show…..Trust me this music SUCKS!
