LENNON/JASON SUECOF COLLABORATION IS EVEN WORSE THAN WE’D FEARED

Back when we first heard that uber-producer du jour Jason Suecof was working with Lennon, we were more than a little surprised. But now that the project, called “Devil’s Gift,” has emerged, our surprise has been ugraded to shock in light of the fact that the song, “Shadow Never Ending,” SUCKS.

Let me say it again. This song SUCKS.

Lennon was never especially good – she sought to give listeners a “worst of both worlds” experience by creating nu metal for the Lillith Fair crowd – but Jesus Christ, this is some of the most insincere, trend-chasing bullshit I’ve subjected my poor ears to in a long while. Seriously, what could have brought about Lennon’s musical 180 if not some desire to (once again) try to be a cool Johnny-Come-Lately to an already dying scene? I think In This Moment are providing enough bad female-fronted American New Wank, but I guess Lennon felt she had something to contribute, too.

I really, really hope Suecof was well paid for this crap, because his street cred just went right in the shitter. Oh, well. We’ll always have Crotchduster.

Watch the video below. Better yet, don’t.

Close-ups of slack-tuned bass strings vibrating – hasn’t that been done to death?

  • Gibbo

Her vocals are like rape to my ears O_O

  • Dallas

Cmon guys. This isn’t as bad as you make it!

  • Seth

2:00 in: Whose idea is it to muffle and virtually mute a drum fill when there is no other instruments playing???? Can someone, anyone, tell me what the fucking point of that is? It sounds like shit. Is it this suecof guys idea?

And Dallas, cmon man, its pretty bad. I mean, it really did wreek of insincerity. Her vocals are like someone trying to do something that they dont really understand. To alot of people screaming is just…screaming–but its not. There is style and believe it or not, songwriting to screams (diff tones and inflections to fit the music). Her screams just made the already garbled mess of music sound even more messy and garbled.

  • Dallas

I concede my point guys! HAhA! At least the sounds quality is top notch!

  • NuMallCore Pwns Yo Mama

Personally, I never get tired of seeing close up slack-tuned bass strings vibrating. That might just be me though.

When I read the headline, I thought that Jason had some how channeled the spirit of John Lennon. I was actually looking forward to listening to that.

I’m going to have to agree with dallas, its not that bad, it is bad but not as much as you guys say it to be

that song is about as great as developing a case of full blown AIDS

  • dude!man!dude!

personally i think its better than any vocals Angela Gossow has laid down. THAT is uninspired studio magic BS. At least Lennon is actually screaming as opposed to sending her voice through a rack of processors and effects.

  • whatwhy

it just sounds insincere. the mid part with the singing is alright then she goes on again with the screaming.

  • Rob

So.. I don’t know who or what Lennon is. Good thing?

  • Jason

Never heard of her before this. Production is good but the music is ultra trendy.

  • Brett

I’ll admit I have her first nu-metal album. Can’t stand her screaming. At least she’s actually hot, unlike the front woman of In This Moment.

Oh no! Suecof has lost his street cred!?!?!!? How will he ever hang with the true G’s anymore? That was a tough rollin mofo. Aint no one gonna take this honky seriously now…
