SCARS ON BROADWAY DEBUT NEW SONG

dm1.jpgNow, this is how you push a new album: head over to the official website of Scars on Broadway, the new band featuring System of a Down’s Daron Malakian and  John Dolmayan, to hear their new track “They Say.” It’s a simple, catchy as fuck rock number that reminds you that just having the confidence to let people hear your music is always the best promotional tool.

The band’s debut album will be out later this year. Although it’s completely pointless to choose sides, I wanna go on record as saying I already like this better than anything from Serj Tankian’s solo album.

  1. Tony says:

Every song released by a SOAD member sounds like a SOAD song.

The riff is cool, but the vocals are lame.

    Meh.

  2. Gibbo says:

I’m sorry but this song is lame in general.

Im going on record to say that if the album is like this song, Serj’s edges out.

  3. david says:

That song was pretty lame. My guess is that the album will be more of the same. And Serj’s album will be far and away better as well.

  4. NuMallCore Pwns Yo Mama says:

I think Daron is a _decent_rock_ guitarist, but he has no business fronting a band. Serj has some personality in his voice.

  5. James says:

agreed, vocals are weak up front and alone, only should be behind serj’s.

  6. Byron. W says:

Got to agree with the majority of what people are saying… I really liked Elect The Dead… this isnt bad… but it just doesn’t work as well…

  7. nrich says:

    C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER

i happen to like the track and have high expectations for malakian

  8. Davlion says:

I agree with nrich, I have high expectations still for the album itself. I think there will be some interesting things to come from it. You can not base an album off of one song. Regardless, I’ll get the cd and I really did like this song. It’s simple, and sometimes thats the best way to start and go.

  9. MetalEdgeEd says:

I don’t know…on first listen, I think it sounds like a heavier-than-usual Placebo song. I definitely agree that the vocals are what’s killing it – Daron’s taking over as co-lead vocalist on the last two System albums was a huge mistake. Serj’s album is much better than this song. But I’ll listen to the full-length and make a final judgment at that point.

  10. I’m going to have to agree with what most people are saying here… based on just this song (I’ll reserve final judgment until I hear more), I don’t like this as much as Serj’s solo stuff. Nothing wrong with a simple rock song, but there just isn’t much that’s interesting about this. In that main riff, when he switches from the 3rd chord to the 4th chord… so juvenile and obvious, almost painfully so. That having been said, I really, really enjoyed Daron’s contributions to System on the last few records, both vocally and in songwriting. I’m curious what the rest of this album holds.

  11. Karel (Belgium) says:

I was really looking forward to this album. Based on this one song i’m pretty disappointed, because in a previous interview Daron said that the music was going to be a blend of armenian folk tunes with death metal influences. So I was expecting something quite different (maybe like “radio/video” on Mezmerize). This is a bit to catchy for me.

  12. ezra says:

Daron should only sing back-ups, limited ones.

  13. Captian2131 says:

I happen to think this song is really good and Ive got real high expectations for this album! I loved Serjs solo album and from what i hear i think I going to love Scars On Broadway. I think all of these comments are biased opinions just because you like Serj better than Daron. Daron is a a great guitarist, decent singer, and an excellent song writer so i think Daron is more than capable of fronting his own band

  14. K says:

I like the song much better than anything Serj has done and cannot wait until the cd comes out.
Daron is fueled by passion for his music, Serj is fueled by ego and the ability to multi track. Will still applaud his effort even though if he continues down this path he will be playing Vegas in 10 years, especially after seeing him preform live…Viva Serj.

  15. Nikan says:

I think it is so naive to write such an article. If you want to choose side then do it but no body will join your side because there is only a solo album from system of a down guitarist. Daron is a good guitarsit, song writer but comparing to serj!
I beleive that the main, (not all) success of system of a down is due to Serj tankian’s vocals. Elect the dead is a very good album. I like it.

  16. Eric Kukert says:

what the fuck is wrong with both of you THEY SAY fucken rocks i think that daron is making the a great album, i think it will be equal to Serj’s Elect the dead. and i think that putting daron in more on soads two last albums was better than the other albums most of you just go with what every body else says.

  17. THOMAS says:

i have to say that i do like the new song. it took me two tries to get it to “jive” for me though. Serj’s album is a very good one and i think this one will be too

  18. Someone says:

They Say is just simple and catchy. It’s not what I would have expected from Daron but it’s still pretty good. I kinda figured he wouldn’t be writing those fast erratic riffs like in soad since he said that SOB won’t be a moshpit-type band.

Serj is definitely a better vocalist but Daron’s vocals on They Say are better than in mezmerize/hypnotize.

Also, Elect the Dead is really good but it’s definitely missing Daron’s awesome guitar parts. Serj’s guitar parts are more like classical whereas Daron’s are just like crazy noise in a good way (for lack of better way to describe it).

Anyway, I’m looking forward to SOB, it seems like it’ll be pretty good.

  19. [...] Interscope. Scars on Broadway released the song “They Say” a few weeks back, generating mixed reactions and a heated debate in our comments section. Listen to the track [...]

  20. Tom says:

I have the full lenght LIVE-cd, with most of the songs that will be on the full CD i think. They Say is catchy, but there are way better songs on the LIVE-CD i got. So I would like to hear it in a studio edited version… think it will be a very good cd.

But i must agree on the vocal part. I loved Serj voice, and we all compare Daron to him, but Daron has a co-singer, which makes it kinda allright on the Live CD. It has some raw vocals, but thats just Daron.

    Looking Forward To It
