BELIEVERS IN THE POWER OF HEAVY METAL

BITPOMPom WonderfulSo there’s a new metal website gracing the Interwebs this week. It’s called Believers in the Power of Heavy Metal (or BITPOM for short) and is owned and run by The Syndicate, who manage Shadows Fall, Protest the Hero and others. BITPOM — other than the name’s striking resemblance to a certain refreshing fruit drink — is in its early stages kind of a cross between MetalSucks and NoneLouder; intelligent metal commentary and discussion with an integrated social network built on the Ning platform.

What do you think of the new site?

They’ve asked me to do a guest column called “Ask the Blogger,” in which users submit questions to me about anything, and I answer ‘em. So if you’ve ever wanted to ask me anything, now’s your chance! Visit BITPOM and comment under my column.

It seems OK, but given the ties to The Syn, it looks like nothing but “We love all metal…blah, blah blah.” Industry mags like CMJ Weekly get soooooooo boring because they are afraid of being critical of ANYTHING and since this site is backed by a promo/managing company, i expect the same positive outlook.

This is why i read MetalSucks. The name alone shows you’re not afraid to point out what bands are truly shitty.

dudemandude and his epic name said it perfectly. I’m sick of overly aggrandizing PR crap. 90% of what is marketed as metal these days is utter garbage, and I like having people agree with me that it’s garbage.

Even negative MS reviews tell you the great parts about a piece, but really do they say “Go buy this record.” This means that when they do say it, it has conviction. (See: PTH.)

Join up to the site guys. The Syndicate was our old management company and they aren’t the same ole stuff. They really care about metal so support the shit out of them!

Honestly I was reading you guys from the beginning (when every post had 0 comments), and I’d prefer if you two became the ones to come out of NYC with metal blogging success.
