LET’S HEAR IT FOR JANE’S ADDICTION

Thursday, April 10th, 2008 at 2:06pm by

Jane’s Addiction in their prime were un-fucking-stoppable. Before Perry Farrell became a weirdo concert promoter and before Dave Navarro became a reality TV clown, Jane’s were one of the most original bands on the planet. You really ought to hear more about this band in the same breath as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana, but alas, history has sort of passed them over. I like this video for “Stop” because a) it shows live performance footage, b) it’s from Ritual de lo Habitual, the best Jane’s album (disagree? discuss.).

Now just cross your legs and wait for the inevitable re-reunion.

Didn’t they already do a reunion tour a few years back?

Yeah, they did…. with Flea on Bass or something. Anyway, I don’t how everyone else felt about it, but I for one, hope they DON’T. Strays was a piece of shit.

They’ve done TWO reunion tours, and then released a shitty comeback album. I saw them on both tours, and they were wonderful. But I think after they broke up because Dave Navarro became such a creepy tool, it’s taken the wind out of this, their third reunion. Unless they get Eric Avery back on bass, which would be near impossible, if you know your Jane’s lore.

That being said, yeah, they’ve been passed over arguably because they only put out two albums in their prime. But in their defense, they were great albums, they were important, and they were damn good. And in case you doubt why there’s Jane’s news on Metalsucks, check out the riff from “Mountain Song”: it’s heavy as BALLS.

..then it wound up in a Coors commercial…

I love Janes Addiction, have for years. Some good fucking riffs and straight rock out.

    Love it

Nothing’s Shocking was far superior to Ritual. Ritual had too much wanking and fluff material. Shocking was amazing from first note to last.

I saw Jane’s three times between ’90 and ’91, and they were the best fucking tribal, psychosexual, metal, tripped-out motherfuckers you could ever bear witness to.

Didn’t see the reunions because, well, it’s not Jane’s without Eric.

One of the greatest disappointments in my musical life has been watching Navarro go from cool shy guitar god to whatever the fuck he is now. Tool is the right word, I suppose (and I’m not talking Maynard & co.).

Coincidentally, I’m listening to JA right now. Weird.

Ritual is a trippy fucking album. Smoke up and listen to “And Then She Did” and “Of Course” in headphones. And “Three Days” is a masterpiece.

PS: They’ll never reunite. OK, maybe at the R&R Hall of Fame in 2045.

Check out Eric Avery’s new solo album, which just dropped on Tuesday. Way better than the recent post-Jane’s acts.

LOVE Jane’s Addiction. Ritual and Shocking are both amazing records. I finally saw them live at Lollapalooza 2003, and they were wonderful. Strays was pretty weak, though.
