DETHKLOK TOURING WITH CHIMAIRA AND SOILENT GREEN?!

Well, this is a friggin’ weird, but totally awesome, line-up: cartoon band Dethklok will do their first headlining tour this summer, with support from MetalSucks faves Chimaira and Soilent Green. This is the first chance that most of us will get to check out Dethklok live, since their last tour was exclusively on college campuses. Plus, Chimaira and Soilent Green absolutely kill live. Dethklok is headlining this show? You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. I’m not shitting on them because it’s not bad, but its not THAT good. I’m sure some (many, maybe?) will disagree but how is a cartoon band headlining this tour?
Why no Zimmer’s Hole?
Is that why they haven’t been hard at work on their TV show?

This tour’s a fucking joke.Everybody should get real about this Dethklok stuff.
It shouldn’t've gone beyond the tv show.Even putting out a record with the tracks taken from the show was a step too far.
This is NOT death metal.
I’m not taking anything away from the TV show.
But they should’ve learned from the first couple of shows they did and called this shit a day already.They are ridiculing themselves and Brendon Small is probably doing too many drugs to be aware of it.The guy should simply form his own band.He’s talented,but incorporating Dethklok in everything he does is a mistake.
This is reaching the absurdity of KISS.But at least,the guys weren’t a bunch of cartoons.
If at least they could’ve made a play out of the live show or some shit,with dialogues in between the songs,displaying the fact that this is not an actual metal show but a humoristic stand-up,I would’ve said kudos since the characters and the storyline are hilarious.
But they’re trying too hard.

Just saying that in when you look at the grand scheme of things and you can actually tell metal sub-genres apart,you’ll find it laughable when people say Dethklok is the ”greatest death metal band in the world”.
I already said I dig the show.Just sayin’ that the idea of it is being abused and translated in ways that are getting beyond ridiculous.
I mean…dude.They’re headlining,and the two ”real” bands on this bill are only supporting acts.S’a bit funny to me.
The does refer to them that way, but… I don’t know anyone who refers to them as such. If someone tried to tell me they were the greatest (anything) aside from the greatest cartoon death metal band ever, I’d laugh at them.
That being said, regardless of genre or sub-genre or what ever, they make some headbangable stuff. Just like Chimaira does. It’s good, I’m a huge fan.

But dude,trying to stuff it down people’s throats that they are the band of the year and that they are ”death metal” when really their stuff sounds like recent Soilwork (or whatever comes from Gothenburg nowadays)..s’just fucking stupid.I mean…LOL.
They shouldn’t be the headlining band.If they want to tour,so be it,but putting Chimaira as a supporting act for a band that’s a derivative of a cartoon tv show looks like an insult/bad joke to me.

You know, Brendon, Gene and the other two guys play on stage as if they were a real band. It’s not as if they just play a bunch of Dethklok clips and hide behind a curtain. At least they’re not pussy enough to pull that shit on us like most would expect them to.
I think it’s pretty cool that you can see a Dethklok sow, but they shouldn’t be headlining. The other two bands on the bill are widely respected. The Dethklok show should be an opening act.
But I’d still prefer to see a few new episodes!
This is from an interview with Byron Stroud (SYL, Fear Factory, Zimmer’s Hole) that appeared in Terrorizer Online #35:
TO: How was the Dethklok tour. Did you guys dress up?
BS: “No. They had three screens, one behind the band and one on either side of the stage. Gene plays to a clicktrack, which is hooked up to the video playback and the band is very dimly lit onstage, so people couldn’t really see who it was: they watched the playback screens. The whole set was basically synched up to the playback, so each song was like the video for the show. They had whole versions of the songs from the show, in-between-song skits and stuff like that. It was really good, man. It was really neat.”
TO: Must have been a different experience – it’s kind of like doing a cabaret, lacking the spontaneity of a live show.
BS: “It was definitely less spontaneous than a live show, but it was still cool because everybody was into it. They were there to see the cartoon, you know what I mean? It was cool, man. It went over very well, a lot better than I expected, and Brendon and the guys were happy with it. They’ve got another Dethklok tour planned for the end of June, a six-week North American tour. The tour we did back in October-November was kinda just hacked up from college dates to see if it would work, y’know.”

No offense, but they aren’t stuffing anything anywhere.[lol] As the cartoon goes, they are the biggest band ever, the 12th biggest world power or something like that due to wealth or something. That would explain any marketing or something [that I probably would miss] that would make one think that. An album makes sense, since it has a decent following, and it sold pretty fuckin’ well. A tour makes sense, especially the way they do it[reference: youtube+that interview above] Yeah it’s a joke but people get it. I don’t know how to explain this very well, its actually very very strange and it took me a long time to accept the show/music as anything other than very stupid. However, I think they are doing it all right. People want to hear the music and they CAN tour, so why dont they? They seem to be pulling the concert off the right way. The interview above makes sense of it, i think.
Dethklok is metal. Chimaira is metal. Soilent Green is SUPER metal. Leave it to the internet to read about something like this and not go “Fucking sweet! This show is going to thrash my totally virgin ass!” but instead start in with “Dethklok shouldn’t headline!” and “This isn’t death metal!”
Dethklok is fun. They are a blast, the songs are a blast, and getting to see them with two bands who are great and who kick out the jams live is fucking badass. But I do hope that they ditch the projectors this time. They were great and all, but it’s kind of a bummer to go to a show and know you’re hearing the same rigidly timed set list everyone else in every state has heard.
On Dethklok’s Dethalbum:
The album debuted at #21 on the Billboard 200 chart making it the highest chart positioned death metal album to date with 33,740 copies sold in its first week. The Dethalbum was also streamed 45,000 times when it went live on AOL Music during the week of its release. It has so far sold over 100,000 copies.
If Dethklok isn’t death metal, then death metal should take a page from their book because they apparently know how to make sales.
Dethklok is the only metal band that’s actually tolerable, ear-wise and otherwise. Anyone who protests their obvious superiority is far too caught up in attachments to failed juvenile bands.

as far as people saying Dethklok is the greatest death metal band ever is like Tenacious D is the greatest rock band ever…… they are awesome yes and the best at what they do. reminding people who take music WAAAAAAAY to seriously to laugh. because i think some of these guys have sticks in their butts!
they havent been working on the show because Adult swim hasnt been able to afford to buy more episodes. so that means WATCH MORE ADULT SWIM!!!!!

The negativity here is so ridiculous. If this tour was a mistake, it’ll be proven at the box office. Also, for the record, Dethklok is not death metal. I love death metal and plent of other metal but Dethklok is NOT death metal. Look up the definition if you don’t already know that. More importantly, I don’t care that they’re not death metal! I like the Dethalbum and I saw Dethklok on their college tour. It was a cool show and one awesome thing about it was that I went with friends who wouldn’t normally go to a metal show, they went because they like Metalocalypse. Everyone had a good time! Gene Hoglan was great, he’s my favorite metal drummer and it was awesome to see him in the lineup. I’m looking forward to seeing Dethklok again in SF – I don’t like Soilent Green or Chimera so I’m showing up late! I’ve been going to metal shows for over 2 decades – I see bands who make music that I like, not because of what genre they’re classified as!

Sounds like Dethklok to me, they are Death Metal, or more correctly speaking, “Melodic” Death Metal, or if you really want to be anal(and who on MetalSucks doesn’t) Comedic Melodic Death Metal. I get really annoyed when people haul off saying shit “isn’t metal” or “isn’t rock” or whatever, it absolutely is, shit, “I get to define what is and isn’t metal”, no, it’s just your opinion.
I’d love to see Dethklok live, damned be the other two, I need to see me some Castratikron, or Better Metal Snake and The Lost Vikings, fuck, if Death Metal bands had the sense of humor about them that Dethklok has, I’d actually like them instead of wanting to stab my ears until they’re just gutted holes.
I do that with Dethklok, but it’s just because they’re so fucking METAL I can’t stop myself. ;)

For those whining about the other two bands not being headliners, consider this: “Dethklok” probably planned a tour anyway, and they would prefer to give their fans more than just themselves perhaps? I mean not too many bands will tour solo, if any. So you’re mad they asked those bands to accompany them? Better than not seeing them at all if you like them.
If you have a big problem with it, just don’t go see it. And like the others said, at least the guys are out there playing and singing. They had a successful album, and now they’re bringing it to you for real.
