      You know, if you guys pulled you heads out of you @$$es and actually read the words, you would realize that the cover art is very appropriate for the album, and not actually evil at all. The cover speeks of the power of fighting for something actually worth fighting for and the danger that is posed to the enemies of the person who has a cause that they are willing to risk everything for. The cover song, Indistructible speaks of fighting for the causes that are truly worth fighting for. “…Another reason another cause for me to fight Another fuse uncovered now for me to light My dedication to all that I’ve sworn to protect…” True lyrics from the song. Take the time to learn about something before you go badmouthing it because you only prove the other side right and make yourself look the fool.

      I am open to peoples opinions, but I have to say Disturbed is an awesome band. Their album artwork is awesome as well. I haven’t listened to a song from them I refuse to listen to again because for all of them they think out exactly how they want it to sound, and their lyrics always have a meaning behind them.

    Since iTunes just became the largest music retailer in the world, album art is largely irrelevant. Even when I buy physical CDs, the music is immediately uploaded to my computer and then downloaded to my iPod and the CD goes into a CD rack where it collects dust.

    As for this particular album art, it’s probably an attempt to copy Maiden’s success with Eddie. That’s not likely to happen. My guess, however, is that had this album cover been on a progressive experimental mathcore death metal band’s album, the headline would be BAND X HAS MOST METAL ARTWORK OF ALL TIME.

    I think the colors and texture aren’t bad. The concept is just them trying to forge some sort of Eddie-type branding identity, as a commenter suggested before, and it doesn’t do much for me one way or the next. It’s pretty middle of the road and uninspired–pretty much the same as I find their music. They have some hooks, I guess, but why bother with it when so many other bands come at you with something more dynamic. This is band is purely for the frat boys who listen to maybe 3 bands total. Broad generalization, perhaps, but a basis in truth.

    I agree with Sammy if this had been, lets say, Texture’s artwork then it would have been “Badass”, or at LEAST would have slipped by with a “Decent.” However since it’s disturbed, it’s getting trashed. I think it’s good enough. How are flames, chains, and muscles NOT metal? Who cares if it looks like another past album art? Do you know how many different albums I’ve seen with a heart on the front with either chains/nails/ice/fire or some combination of all of them? Who cares.

    @Drew: I don’t know how you can claim Disturbed is influential. Who exactly have they influenced? They were a part of an awful trend, now mostly dead. Any bands they may have influenced will never even see the light of day, and frankly, anything influenced by a genre as boring and uninventive as nu metal is going to be, well, boring and uninventive and probably won’t turn too many heads.

    @Alex, Joe: I know reading must be very difficult, and the fact that you each managed to write a whole post by yourselves is just downright impressive.     About the cover art, i see where you are coming from about the eddie thing, but the art isn’t that horrible. It is pretty bad but not as bad as you put it out to be.

    As for how horrible you say the band is, you can go suck a cock. Everyone likes different music, and if someone so happens to like disturbed, then i guess everyone else has to bash on them. Not surprised, this coming from another of those media-brainwashed zombies of today.

    The thing is that i like disturbed, i like A7X, and i like a lot of different genres of rock, mainly for an instrumental value, i dont just consider music a “sound”, which is exactly why i don’t like hip-hop/rap. What is funny is that i don’t go around bashing hip-hop (i do enjoy an intelligent argument such as this, but that’s beside the point), and i don’t see why you should too, unless you are just looking to bash on disturbed fans, which it looks like because you automatically assume that most if not all disturbed fans are illiterate morons who can not support an intelligent argument.

    I don’t think this is supposed to be a copy of Eddie. Who has seen Disturbed’s ‘Land of Confusion” video? This is the same character. Also, Disturbed is one of the few bands I like, because 99% of all other metal bands sound like the vocalist is choking. And no other band has vocals as good as this one.

    Alright. As I am a big fan of Todd McFarline’s I’m not so huge on Disturbed. The artwork is ok… Very well done but a bit trite. Seems to work with the band though seeing that they aren’t very inventive in their styles and aren’t amazing live… I tend to steer towards the more technical music and let’s face it, Disturbed definately isn’t known for being a very technical band. They’re at least nice guys though when I cought up with them after a show.

    Disturbed is one of, if not the best mainstream artists today, but there are many better artists. Their new album rocks though. I like the solos. metalsucks.net doesn’t actually think metal sucks, because it doesn’t, even though Disturbed is more hard rock than metal.

    What I think is hilarious is that half the fools here are bashing Todd McFarland for this artwork, when he did not even do it. It was David Finch, who has done comic covers and artwork for everything from Batman to X-Men.

    At least now I don’t have to take peoples comments here seriously, because if they jump to a conclusion about the artwork without really checking it out, then why the hell should I think they have even heard a Disturbed song before bashing the music.

    They probably listened to some Garth Brooks and assumed it was Disturbed.

    Anyone who plays the guitar or the drums (decently) can tell you right now that Disturbed is not an easy band to cover. Especially the new album. Are they the most technical band? Probably not even close, but it’s Rock people. Rock. Not Jazz. Who can resist the double bass, the catchy riffs, and those badass guitar solos? Real solos I might add, not that pu$$y sh!t that they call solos in today’s rock songs.

    Disturbed exists for one purpose, and that purpose is to rock guys testicular pouch off. Who is better at this than Disturbed?? There are many bands that rock the sac off just as good, but definitely not better. So for the guys who have balls, and have testosterone coursing through their veins instead of estrogen, put on some Disturbed….rip someones head off…raise your goblet of rock…and tell “the man” to go F himself.

    This cover is the background for my desktop. I like it. It’s not a rip-off of Eddie in any way. It was originally just a drawing, but since the Land of Confusion video (a cover of Genesis’ song of the same name) he’s been their mascot, of sorts. Disturbed speaks much about the futility of war, which is the main theme of their LoC video. The Guy, as their mascot is called, is the super-hero, leading the defeated rabble of citizens to victory over the Sons of Plunder (another good song, btw), the leaders of the world, who are all corrupt and fascist. The Guy is the ultimate anarchist. In the video, he’s a white dude with the same face as in this picture. In this one, it appears someone tried to burn him, but it only made him stronger.
    All in all, Disturbed’s lyrics and music are great. Not too heavy, intelligible (unlike most death metal groups or rap/hiphop)
    If you’re going to pick on a useless genre of music, pick rap. A perfect example is Never Scared by Bone Crusher (hmm, faggy macho-wannabe name if ever there was one). I’ll quote… “So I’m outside o da club and you tink I’m a thug. So I go to my loaded Tech 9 that’s up in da trunk…”
    Wow, he thinks someone thinks he’s a punk, so like a little bitch, he grabs an automatic gun. Guns are for pussies who can’t fight. So are gangs. “Lets team up, so we can beat that dude!”
    Seriously, the whole rap genre is based on their bullshit, which they perpetuate. Get the fuck out of the ghetto and do something with yourself, lest you wind up like Tupac. Fuckers.
    Disturbed owns, this cover art is just what it’s supposed to be, simple with a simple message “Don’t let the fuckers win”.

And if you take any time to read about the inspiration for this album, you’d bow down and confess what a brilliant image this is for one of the most brilliantly written metal albums of the new millennium.

    First off the art work is really well done. The texture and the color tones are really quit impressive. The best argument I have read thus far (I stopped reading around April 17) was because it was Disturbed and that somehow tarnished the look of the art. IMO Disturbed is a good band and the music is enjoyable. Their only downside is that they have fallen into the rut of mainstream U.S. Music which leads to formulaic songs. Disturbed has gotten better with each album. Believe was the worst album they have had, and the cover art for it was just a Celtic knot in a circle. If anything is overdone, that is.

    Ten Thousand Fist and Indestructible are both albums that have introduced the idea that sometimes fighting for what you believe in is better than the alternative. That message is best sent with an icon. That icon is the muscles and chains dude. In that sense this cover art actually sticks to the tone and feel of the music that is on the CD.

    So far the people that have liked the cover art have also said they like the music. This goes to my last point that if you do not like the tone or theme of the cover art you probably won’t like the music. Or if you don’t like the music, you just pick on the cover art because you are unable to articulate a valid and logical argument as to why the music stinks. And the argument for the cover art was not all that impressive either.

    PS: TJ I am not a 13 year old fan boy writting an atempt at a missive. Besides a missive implies trying to hide something in subtext.

    So I am going to state it quit clearly for all (not just TJ) who are unable to put together solid argumentative skills. Learn to articulate your point instead of ranting and raving about a topic you know nothing about.

    - Not one of you is making (or losing) any money off either the band or the artwork (if you are, I suggest you spend your time managing it better, rather than bumpin your gums).

      why hate on an album cover?
      i think what most people dont know is the insiders edge of disturbed. ive listen to all their music. even the shitty stuff. and they took the shitty stuff, made new stuff etc. (just fyi)
      the point of this album was to make a badass, just pump you up album. because so many fans msgd distrubed commenting on how they listen to, and use their music. so the band, actually being a cool bunch of guys, made an album with that intent.

      and also, to all those thinkin dave is a fag etc.
      he actually realizes that the lyrics he comes up with sounds like that, but he actually has no attachment in terms of, its a life experience or whatever. dude says so himself. his purpose on the band is to make lyrics that go with the music. they make lyrics last. and dave works his ass to come up with shit that sounds cool with the instruments. these guys are still new to the game.

      oh yeah, and the dude with muscles and chains, hes like their mascot.. its a symbol to distrubed fans.. jus sayin…
      this is a down to earth band, and you would be effed in the head to think that rap or pop of today is anywhere close in comparison.
